A new £10 million care home described as “absolutely stunning” is expected to create more than 100 jobs once it’s fully occupied.
Parley Place was officially opened by Cllr Andrew Parry, a member of Dorset Council and Chairman of West Parley Parish Council.
The home, which has 68 ensuite rooms, offers residential and dementia care.
Currently employing 30 staff, it is the latest to be opened by Barchester Healthcare.
The company is one of the UK’s largest independent care providers with around 250 homes including five now in Dorset.
The first two residents are due to move into Parley Place on Monday.
Facilities at the luxury home in Christchurch Road include a hair salon, private cinema, a choice of lounges and private dining.
Fees start from £1,350 a week.
Simon McCall, Barchester’s Commercial Director, pictured left, described the official opening as an exciting day for the company.
He said: “We have a huge passion for building care homes but this is one of the nicest that we’ve built over the last few years.
“It does look absolutely stunning and the whole place already has a warm feeling to it.
“We’re very proud to be part of the West Parley community who’ve welcomed us so warmly.
“Like all our Barchester homes we hope Parley Place will play a pivotal role in the community.
“Not only providing high quality care options, and over 100 staff into the neighbourhood, but also building great relationships with groups in the community.”
Tracey Aldin, Parley Place’s General Manager, pictured right, is a former nurse and was Elderly Care Matron at Southampton General Hospital for many years before moving into the private care sector.
She said: “Our values at Barchester are at the core of everything we do which is to provide support for older people living independent lives with dignity and respect.
“We celebrate life and we look forward to celebrating the lives of our residents who have chosen to live at Parley Place and chosen us as their new home.
“A lot of our residents will be moving in from the local community.
“It’s really important that we get to know them now by inviting them into our home for events.
“If they do come to a stage where they have to move in then it’s a more seamless transition.
“We’ve had a really positive response and everyone who has come in, and been shown around, has said what a wonderful place it is.
“We’ve made contact with lots of local people and our local school, church and Memorial Hall.
“They’re all here for this official opening which is wonderful.
“I absolutely love working in this sector.
“It’s so rewarding and there’s nothing I’d rather do.”
Cllr Parry said everything he had seen so far indicated that Barchester – and Parley Place – had made it a priority to become part of the ‘West Parley family’.
He added: “Making the decision to move into a care home, really for the families that often have to make that decision, is an incredibly emotional journey.
“It’s an experience that we know has to come after a lot of careful deliberation.
“It does really take a great leap of faith to put your trust as a family person in trusting others to take care of the most treasured members of your family, often your parents.
“It is reassuring to know that the people of West Parley will be served.
“We celebrate the successes that you intend to have for our residents, because actually coming here is not about the end of life, it’s about how to get the most out of life. “
Barchester’s other homes in Dorset are Kings Park in Ferndown, Upton Bay in Poole and Trinity Manor in Sherborne.
A fifth home, Hyacinth House in Stapehill, is currently being refurbished and is due to reopen in the New Year.
