“Warning to all founders. Be careful, your dreams might come true.”

The 11 words entrepreneur Cas Paton used to convey to his almost 21,000 LinkedIn followers the excitement felt as he posed – for the first time – in front of OnBuy House.

The formal move to its new flagship office in Bournemouth next month marks the latest stage in the development of, created from scratch by the 37-year-old father of four.

It follows a year of rapid expansion for the eCommerce innovator, founded in 2016 and described as the world’s fastest-growing marketplace with more than 36 million items.

Currently based in Poole, the company’s enlarged headquarters in Dean Park Crescent, Bournemouth, is needed to house its influx of new employees.

Numbers have risen from around 60 to more than 100 in just the last 12 months.

OnBuy House provides a 12,049 sq ft base for the growing team, complementing its Manchester presence and army of remote workers nationwide.

The four storey building has ample office space as well as breakout areas and a roof terrace with sea views.

Cas, Founder and CEO, who launched with £500,000 from his own companies and without any external finance, said it had been a conscious decision to invest in Dorset, and not the ‘London bubble’.

He said: “We’ve always been on a steep growth trajectory, but we realised quickly that we needed to upgrade our space – particularly when we ran out of desks.

“While plenty of companies are downsizing in favour of ‘WFH’ or hot-desking, I’ve always believed in creating a space where our team can think, do and thrive.

“We have fully adopted the need for a hybrid model ensuring we attract and develop the very best talent.

“But the offices are here to be the heart of the company, to provide a fantastic hub for collaboration and a place to come and enjoy being at work.

“The south west is where OnBuy was born, and I truly believe that there is a world of talent beyond the M25 to be tapped into.

“We’re known for hiring the best and brightest, and with our coastal base we’ve been able to bring on board a range of people with diverse skills that will help take us to the next level.”

Goadsby Commercial acted on behalf of the landlord.

James Edwards, Director, pictured left, said: “We are naturally delighted to have secured the letting on behalf of our client, particularly as it is to a company of OnBuy’s stature.

“The building presents OnBuy with a rare opportunity to occupy a prominent self-contained office building in the town centre.

“It is one of the most significant lettings to take place during the pandemic.”

OnBuy currently has more than 100 roles still open.
