BP College set to introduce vocational courses with backing of local employers
Bournemouth & Poole College has announced that it will offer T Levels to its students for the first time this September.
These courses, focused on building technical and vocational skills, represent the equivalent of three A Levels, and aim to help students into employment, higher study, or apprenticeships through extended industry placements.
It’s been a very popular decision with local employers, as more than 30 businesses have already signed up to support the College’s new courses in education and childcare, as well as digital and computing.
They include companies like the VR Centre, Top Bananas Pre-School, and Caterpillar Marine Power.
Danielle Halliday, HR manager at Caterpillar, said: “We are excited to support this programme and to be involved at the early stages of the new T Levels.
“Studying alongside company placements is effective in establishing a career.
“We have worked alongside the College on the apprenticeship programme for several years, and many young adults have gone on to have successful careers within Caterpillar Marine Power.”
BPC principal Phil Sayles added: “By injecting young talent into an experienced workforce, the employer benefits from new ideas and ways of working and it also gives them an opportunity to nurture the skills needed within their particular workforce.
“It’s important that we continue to build long-standing relationships with local firms to help create a fully qualified, well-trained, and highly skilled workforce of the future.”
