Renowned journalist Kate Adie was the first ever guest for Lewis-Manning Hospice Care’s ‘An Audience with…’ programme of events.
The inaugural event, which was hosted by popular podcaster and entrepreneur Warren Munson of Evolve, took place at Parkstone Yacht Club.
With the event completely sold-out, the room was filled to capacity with an audience keen to learn more about the respected journalist and her journey to date, who had an opportunity to ask questions and who all received a signed pre-loved copy of her book ‘The Kindness of Strangers’.
Kate entertained her audience with humorous, witty and self-deprecating anecdotes and accounts of her journey from humble beginnings as a station assistant at BBC Radio Durham, rising to become one of the world’s most prolific female war correspondents.
Her coverage of the 1980 siege of the Iranian embassy in London, watched by millions of viewers, brought her to prominence as one of the few women reporting difficult and dangerous stories at the time.
She currently presents ‘From Our Own Correspondent’ on BBC Radio 4.
Her career has seen her constantly face-to-face with adversity and danger.
She was arrested in Belgrade trying to gather material about General Tito, was in Tripoli during the US bombings of 1986, and accompanied the Coalition forces as they chased Saddam Hussein’s troops out of Kuwait in 1991.
Perhaps her most famous reports came during the Chinese authorities’ killing of protestors in Tiananmen Square, Beijing, in 1989.
Hospice CEO Clare Gallie commented: “We were delighted to welcome Kate to Poole and not surprised that she drew a sell-out event.
“There was much laughter in the room, it was a hugely successful event and we are delighted that Kate has agreed to come back next year for another follow up event.
“We are excited to be rolling out our programme of ‘An Audience with…’ events which will see a diverse mix of guest speakers host events for Lewis-Manning Hospice Care.
“We currently have Jeff Mostyn, Former Chairman of AFC Bournemouth booked for 1st November and on 21st February we have Mandy Hickson, pioneering fighter pilot, author, and journalist.
“Venues are yet to be confirmed and we have an amazing list of other talent in the pipeline as future ‘An Audience with…’ speakers. We look forward to keeping you posted on all upcoming events.
“Huge thanks to Warren Munson for hosting this inaugural event, it’s great to have him involved in our ‘An Audience with…’ programme.

Warren Munson said: “I think when you’ve grown up watching Kate Adie on TV, you were always in awe at the way she reported.
“But with the opportunity to actually meet her and interview her you realise just what a remarkable and formidable lady she is. It was a real pleasure chatting with her.”
