Entries open for the Sherborne Business Awards 2022

Entries open today, November 1, for the Sherborne Business Awards 2022.

Free entry forms and guidelines can be found on the awards website – sherbornebusinessawards.co.uk.

The 2022 awards were launched at a special breakfast meeting at Leweston School near Sherborne.

Attendees heard from a range of speakers including:

  • Cllr Anne Hall, Mayor of Sherborne
  • Rebecca Burns, Sherborne Indies
  • Jane Wood, President, Sherborne Chamber of Trade & Commerce
  • Emma Jones, Head of Fundraising, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance
  • Taff Martin, Chairman, Abbey 104

The 2022 award categories are:

  • New Business of the Year
  • Young Entrepreneur/Rising Star
  • Professional Services Award
  • Best Place to Work
  • Independent Business
  • Family Business of the Year
  • Retail Business

  • Health, Beauty, Fitness Award
  • Green/Eco-Business
  • Cafe, Pub, Casual Dining Venue of The Year
  • The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Award for businesses that show an ongoing commitment to a safer working environment
  • Overall Business of the Year

The awards ceremony will be held at Leweston School at lunchtime on Thursday, February 24, 2022.

As reported on Dorset Biz News, the inaugural 2021 awards – held in June this year – saw The Cross Keys scoop three awards.

It won Overall Business of the Year, the Café, Pub, Hospitality Award and Sherborne Business Leader of the Year for Mo Gherras.

Other winners included Vineyards of Sherborne, named Retail Business of the Year, and Forces Fit Bootcamp which received the award for New Business of the Year.

The closing date for entries for the 2022 awards is January 10, 2022.

Nigel Reeve, of MW Events, used the launch event to announce key statistics about the range of grassroots businesses awards organised by his company this year.

They’ve covered Sherborne, Bridport, Dorchester, Weymouth and Lyme Regis with Poole, Axminster and Taunton/Wellington taking place in the next couple of months.

Plans are also in place to launch business awards in Wimborne.

To date, the awards have received more than 800 entries while 350 local businesses have attended the award ceremonies.

There have been 3,500 combined viewings of the streamed awards, the launch events and the awards sponsors’ videos while the websites for each individual awards have been viewed over 6,000 times.

Katie appointed Director of Finance & Operations at hospice charity

Katie Hewitt has joined Poole-based Lewis-Manning Hospice Care as Director of Finance & Operations.

With a background spanning three decades in the financial services sector, Katie has worked at LV= and Quilter.

She has a wide breadth of experience across finance, IT and management information.

Katie said: “I hope to make a real difference within the charity and think that my skill set is a good match to my new role.

“It’s going to be a very busy job and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in.

“Already I’m enjoying working with an amazing and supportive team.”

Clare Gallie, CEO, said: “We are delighted to welcome Katie on board.

“She will be pivotal in helping us to continue to achieve the hospice’s ongoing ambitious plans.”
