Ambitious entrepreneurs and businesses in Dorset are being urged to enter the first global ‘Dragons’ Den’ style investment competition.

The contest is the brainchild of straight-talking Aussie John Attridge, Founder and CEO of BBX who lives in Bournemouth.

If you have a business idea or are a company just starting, or looking to scale up an established business, BBX UK is encouraging you to apply now for the competition in the run-up to the closing date of December 9.

John said: “With the last 18 months being tough for so many businesses globally we have been keen to offer additional support and opportunities.

“We came up with the idea of collaborating with leading entrepreneurs within our BBX community to form a ‘Dragons’ Den’ style competition.

“Together we will offer currency and mentoring alongside an interest-free credit line to ambitious, growth-focused businesses.

“The competition is a fantastic opportunity for those that enter to engage and learn from our highly experienced BBX Dragons.”

On the back of receiving the applications, six semi-finalists will be announced and invited to pitch their business propositions virtually to the BBX Dragons on December 17.

The aim is to get through to the finals to win the main prize valued at £100,000.

Following the pitch, two finalists will then be selected to go head-to-head in a final ‘pitch off’ in January.

The other four semi-finalists will each end their BBX ‘Dragons’ Den’ journey there and leave with a prize valued at over £5,000 each.

Mirroring the ‘Dragons’ Den’ TV show, if there is interest from the BBX Dragon(s) and they put in an offer the finalist will have the choice to accept the offer(s) in return for parting with 10% equity of their business.

If accepted one winner will walk away with the main prize valued at £100,000.

The runner-up will leave with a prize valued at £20,000.

John said: “With all the amazing talent within our BBX business community, we knew it wouldn’t be hard to find entrepreneurs to collaborate with to become our BBX Dragons.

“They have generously committed their time, passion, and currency too.

“We can’t wait to reveal them to you, we’re all very passionate about this.”

The final line-up of BBX Dragons will be revealed at the Quantum Leap Business Show on December 2.

Each will hold a 15-minute Q & A segment as well as offer their tips for pitching to investors, the do’s and don’ts of what to include within your pitch and help those that are interested prepare for the tricky top questions investors ask.

The ‘Dragons’ Den’ style competition is open to entrepreneurs and businesses worldwide.

BBX is the largest business community of its type in the world and designed to help entrepreneurs grow their businesses with the use of the spare capacity they have.

It operates in 14 countries with over 25,000+ businesses globally.

The six businesses making it through to the semi-final will be notified on December 10.

The first virtual pitch is on December 17, giving seven days to put a pitch together for the BBX Dragons.

The finals will be on January  14, 2022, where one business will walk away with £100,000 of support and funding.
