Golden Horizon, the world’s largest square-rigged sailing vessel, is set to turn heads when she arrives in Poole this summer.

The Port of Poole has unveiled its 2021 cruise schedule with four cruise lines visiting a total of seven times this year.

All are making their maiden calls to the port, with the arrivals taking place between June and September.

They include Tradewind Voyages’ 272-guest Golden Horizon, a replica of an early 20th century ship.

She will visit on June 27, August 2 and 12 as part of her UK season.

Other visits are:

  • Polar Cruises, via the 164-guest Seaventure, pictured right, during a Germany to Spain sailing on September 26.
  • Vantage Cruise Line, via new expedition cruise ship the 170-guest Ocean Explorer, which was completed this year. Poole will be the first port of call on both August 8 and 28 as part of two British Isles sailings.
  • Phoenix Reisen, a German-based operator, via the 520-guest Deutschland. A visit will take place on August 3 during a Germany to Iceland sailing.

In preparation for the season, Poole has recently introduced a raft of new health and safety measures at its port terminal.

They include an enhanced layout, a new temperature screening system and fogging machines.

Captain Brian Murphy, Marine & Port Director and Harbour Master, pictured with Tracy Payne, Marketing Manager, said: “We’re delighted to announce the cruise lines that will call at Poole later this year, and are looking forward to giving their visitors a safe and successful welcome.

“We are officially open for business and have real aspirations for Poole, including becoming an increasingly prolific and popular hub for domestic and international cruise lines.

“We’re confident 2021 marks the start of this ambition.”
