Christmas quiz night raises more than £1,400 for Dorset charity

A quiz night organised by Christchurch business Mar-Key Group has raised more than £1,400 for Dorset hospice charity Macmillan Caring Locally.

Taking place at the Ship in Distress in Christchurch, the Christmas quiz featured prizes including a TV, golf trip and vouchers for local businesses including Rockwater Branksome and Careys Manor.

Projects Administrator Tilly Stevens was instrumental in organising the fundraising event and commented ‘The response we’ve had has been overwhelming. From our suppliers gifting such amazing prizes, to our staff, friends, family and clients buying raffle tickets and making generous donations to help us raise money. We can’t thank everyone enough for their support.’

Having begun their fundraising efforts in April 2024, Mar-Key Group has so far raised in excess of £3,600 for a cause close to their hearts. Their friend and colleague James sadly needed the Hospice at Home service after being diagnosed with bladder cancer. The service, which is offered by Macmillan Caring Locally and University Hospitals Dorset, allowed James to be at home during his final weeks and spend precious time with his 1 year old daughter and close family. He passed away at home at the age of just 37, surrounded by his loved ones.

His sister Jade Carpenter, CCO at Mar-Key Group bravely spoke about what the service meant to their family to help raise awareness and funds for the charity. ‘Having that support in our home allowed us to feel like we were making it as normal as possible. The fact we could fulfil James’ wishes to have time at home with us was amazing’.

The company will continue supporting the charity until 31 March 2025. Donations can be made via Just Giving: https://www.justgiving.com/team/mar-key-group-teamjames
