Trethowans commits to Dorset region by securing new Poole premises

Law firm Trethowans, which has offices across the South including Poole and Bournemouth, has signed a lease for office space in a prime location in the centre of Poole.

It has taken over 5,000 sq ft of the landmark building, Merchants House – previously occupied by Animal – on Vanguard Road.

The firm, which was recently listed in The Times Best Law Firms 2022, is investing heavily in fitting out the premises.

The work is due to be completed by February 2022 when the office will open and the 40-plus team move in.

Trethowans is recruiting for a variety of positions in the new office, including in its private client, residential and commercial property, corporate and commercial, and commercial litigation teams.

The new recruits will bolster Trethowans’ existing workforce in Poole and Bournemouth, grow the business and help enhance its offering in Dorset and beyond.

Mike Watson, Trethowans’ Managing Partner, pictured left, said: “The relocation to one of the region’s premier buildings is a real statement of our commitment to the Dorset region.

“With offices in both Bournemouth and Poole, we will be well placed to serve the local community and beyond.

“We look forward to welcoming our clients to these new premises in February.”

Property agent Vail Williams acted on behalf of Trethowans.

Trethowans has been offering legal services to businesses and individuals in the south of England for over 150 years.

The firm, which has a team of around 250 people including more than 40 partners, also has offices in Southampton, Salisbury and Winchester.

Charity wins award for raising awareness of infant mental health

The founder and CEO of an infant and family mental health charity launched just four years ago has received a national award.

Viv Allen, of DorPiP, was presented with the AIM High award at the national conference for the Association of Infant Mental Health (AiMH).

It was in recognition of her commitment to raising awareness of the importance of infant mental health.

AiMH’s primary function is to support the UK community of infant mental health practitioners to come together and learn from each other.

It also plays a role in the raising of standards of infant mental health practice.

Viv, pictured with the award, said: “It is an honour and great privilege to have my work recognised by this national organisation.

“Working with vulnerable families during the first thousand and one days of a child’s life is hugely valuable and rewarding work.

“When my children were born, I struggled alone, and in silence, with some difficult and challenging circumstances and dark thoughts.

“Now, I am passionate about helping families during what can be a most difficult period in life, so that no parent has to suffer as I did.

“The pandemic has added a whole new level of stress for parents.

“The restrictions on family support networks, loss of usual parenting groups and pressure on statutory services is making access to universal services very difficult indeed.”

DorPiP – full name Dorset Parent Infant Partnership – helps families to flourish by offering a safe, therapeutic space for them to explore challenging thoughts and feelings.

The aim is that they can stay together and enjoy all the richness that life as a family has to offer.

New of Viv’s award comes after DorPiP was awarded £196,000 in National Lottery funding.

As reported on Dorset Biz News, the charity will use the funding to offer free therapy and support services to parents of children under two who find that having a baby has impacted their mental health or family relationship.

Christchurch businesses invited to unite for Save the Children

Help make Christmas Jumper Day a fully inclusive Christchurch community event as well as raise some much-needed cash and get into the festive spirit together.

That’s the open invitation to business owners from managed file transfer company Pro2col which moved to the town last year from nearby Tuckton.

It comes on the eve of Christmas Jumper Day – Friday December 10.

James Lewis, Pro2col’s Founder and Managing Director, said: “Christmas Jumper Day has previously been about wearing a jumper and putting a donation in a pot.

“That’s great for big businesses with lots of staff.

“But we wanted to create an opportunity for smaller businesses and franchises to join together in a community event for this important cause.”

The Christchurch Christmas Jumper Day Party will take place in Saxon Square tomorrow, December 10, from 11am until 1pm.

There will be a selfie board for photos, a keepy-uppy competition, children’s design-a-jumper craft stand and more.

The highlight is at 1pm when everyone will get together in their festive knitwear for a community photograph.
