Businesses are being urged to support an appeal to help raise essential funds to repair and rebuild the organ at the historic Wimborne Minster.

The appeal, Minster Makes Music, is launched next month and includes the establishment of a music foundation.

The foundation will manage development of music in the Minster and communication of its musical heritage.

The aim of the Wimborne Minster music appeal is to keep the sound of music firmly in Wimborne Minster and at the heart of its vibrant  community.

It will seek the support of the town, residents, schools and businesses as well as other neighbouring towns in rural Dorset and fundraising trusts.

In 2020 the Minster is celebrating its 900th year.

Andrew Curtis, Chair of the Wimborne Minster Music Appeal Committee, said: “The overall cost is currently estimated to be in the region of £1m and if the fundraising goes well, we envisage the work will commence in autumn 2020 with completion in 2021.

“I would like to ask the community, individuals and businesses, to support us in celebrating the true spirit of Christmas by making a commitment to your Minster church in any way you can, by making a donation, by creating a fundraising event, attending events, or by volunteering in some way.

“We will be very grateful for any support you can give us.”
