20 Questions: Nutritionist, author and Dorset's very own 'Wonder Woman' takes the hotseat

By Staff Reporter [email protected]

Published: December 5, 2019 | Updated: 6th December 2019

Each week we shine the spotlight on a member of Dorset’s business community and ask him, or her, for answers to our part fun/part serious questionnaire. This time…

She loves transforming people’s lives with nutritional advice, gets angry at bad service, lists the beach at Durley Chine as her favourite place in Dorset and names Wonder Woman as her childhood hero.

Dorset’s very own ‘Wonder Woman’ Barbara Cox, the entrepreneurial nutritionist specialising in corporate business and wellness and also author of two books, takes the 20 Questions’ hotseat.

Question: What’s your favourite TV show?

Answer: I don’t really watch certain shows but I like documentaries (Planet Earth), travel, history and Netflix movies.

Q: Who would you like to share a lift with?

A: David Attenborough.

Q: The best bit of my job is…?

A: Transforming people’s lives and watching how a health intervention can turn their illnesses and ailments around quickly.

Q: And the worst…?

A: Sometimes a client doesn’t find me in time and I can’t turn their illness around quick enough! Some people turn last to nutrition and wellness options when they’re only given a few weeks or months to live unfortunately.

Q: Who was your childhood hero?

A: Wonder Woman.

Q: What’s your favourite smell?

A: Peonies.

Q: Where’s your favourite place in Dorset?

A: My local beach at Durley Chine. A blue flag beach that I walk most days.

Q: What advice would you give to anyone starting out on a career?

A: Listen to your intuition and create a niche for yourself in your chosen field. Lead the way for others to follow!

Q: What was your first record/CD?

A: ‘You’re my Best Friend’ by Queen.

Q: What gets you angry?

A: Bad service.

Q: Do you have a favourite piece of music?

A: ‘Mr Blue Sky’ by the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). That just gets my toes tapping and puts me in an instant great mood.

Q: What are the qualities you look for in a new employee?

A: Integrity, action doer, honest, fun and a good heart.

Q: What’s your favourite food or dish?

A: I love food so all food within my principles (see my books Rainbow Recipes & Eat To Be Fit – I know, shameless plug!).

Q: Steamed sponge pudding and custard or plate of melon?

A: Only if it’s watermelon. That’s my favourite melon.

Q: Name the best thing about living/working in Dorset?

A: The beaches, the micro-climate, the friendly open-minded people and a great community spirit.

Q: If you were Prime Minister for the day what would be the first thing you do?

A: Subject to employment contracts, I’d make it an option to take a ‘Self Care Day’ twice a year to be used in conjunction with gyms, NHS, spas etc. I’d distribute tokens to cash in on those days for check-ups, fitness classes, wellness lessons and relaxation learning.

Q:  What’s your biggest frustration?

A: People who don’t believe in themselves and their awesome abilities.

Q:  Where’s your favourite holiday location?

A: So many but I’d say Japan.

Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time?

A: Still motivating, inspiring and educating people around healthy lifestyles.

Q: What would you like to be remembered for?

A: My effervescence and positivity for making a difference in people’s lives!
