Welcome back to 20 Questions where we shine the spotlight on a leading person in Dorset and ask him, or her, for answers to our part fun/part serious questionnaire.

This time, Stuart Holt, Owner and Managing Director of Holt Recruitment Group, takes the ‘hot seat’.

Question: What is your favourite TV show?

A: Game of Thrones is the most amazing TV series ever but my current favourite is Death in Paradise. I think I just want to live in his beach hut.

Q: Who would you like to share a car with?

A: Lewis Hamilton, to drive at 200 miles an hour and survive.

Q: The best bit of my job is…?

A: Team building. I love planning and initiating the activities that help build a team and push people out of their comfort zones. Seeing the positive effect on people afterwards is awesome. Things like the Rowing around the UK, 24 hour marathon and the Tour de France.

Q: And the worst?

A: Realising some peoples future paths aren’t with us.

Q: Who was your childhood hero?

A: Tough one ….. between Face from the A Team, Luke Skywalker and the Hoff. Probably the Hoff.

Q: What’s your favourite smell?

A: Freshly cut grass , the smell of the summer.

Q: Where’s your favourite place in Dorset?

A: Hengistbury Head , I grew up playing amongst the Beach Huts and Sand Dunes.

Q: What advice would you give to anyone starting out on a career?

A: Pick one that allows you to get paid to travel. Remember hard work beats ability.

Q: What was your first record/CD?

A: Michael Jackson’s Bad . Like every child of the 80’s.

Q: What gets you angry?

A: Not much to be honest. Lack of manners and respect.

Q: Do you have a favourite piece of music?

A: If Mr Brightside is considered a piece of music then definitely that. If you are referring to something more classical then O Fortun/ Carmina Burana.

Q: What are the qualities you look for in a new employee?

A: The “spark” like everyone else. Attitude over experience every time. It’s exciting to meet people with real drive. We have a very entrepreneurial environment where new ideas are strongly encouraged. Nothing is ever off the table. Which is probably why we now have 10 companies, no major plans to take over the world, we just meet cool people and get excited.

Q: What’s your favourite food or dish?

A: I went to a proper smokery/BBQ House in Texas ….. meat meat and meat ! It was incredible.

Q: Steamed sponge pudding and custard or a plate of melon?

A: Can I just have the custard!

Q: Name the best thing about living/working in Dorset?

A: I have been very lucky to have travelled the world and lived in a lot of places but the bay from Hengistbury Head to Old Harry on a sunny day would rival anywhere in the world.

Q: If you were Prime Minister for the day what would be the first thing you do?

A: I could definitely write a few pages on this !! After I had re-inacted the Hugh Grant dance scene around number 10 from Love actually I would create as many trans parity rules as I could so the general public could have the opportunity to hold people accountable.

Q: What’s your biggest frustration?

A: I would like the whole world to be opened up so that you could work anywhere for as long as you liked. I hate visa applications.

Q:  Where’s your favourite holiday location?

A: I love Africa. You can have the most surreal experiences with the friendliest people. From walking with Lions in Zimbabwe, swimming with Elephants, poling down the Okavango Delta with hippos, to surfing in Jefferys Bay with the sharks.

Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time?

A: I would like to spend my time flying around the world visiting our offices and working within the charity sector. Quick plug .. we are currently working for a local charity called RT Children’s Wish that really needs help to grow from its fledgling state to a much bigger charity helping even more children. A: I’d like to be remembered for having the most fun possible in any situation and generally being a good human being.
