Each week we shine the spotlight on a member of Dorset’s business community and ask him, or her, for answers to our part fun/part serious questionnaire. This time…
Her favourite smell is fresh bread, she chooses Hengistbury Head, Steamer Point and St Catherine’s Hill as her favourite places in Dorset and would like to share a car with James Corden and her best friend Kate “so we can sing along to the whole of Les Misérables”.
Liz Carter, Charity Manager, The Water Lily Project, Christchurch, takes the 20 Questions’ hot seat.

Question: What is your favourite TV show?
Answer: Too many to pick a favourite, but anything to do with house renovation or interior design, although currently loving ‘Sewing Bee’.
Q: Who would you like to share a car with?
A: James Corden and my best friend Kate so we can sing along to the whole of Les Misérables.
Q: The best bit of my job is…?
A: Seeing beneficiaries grow in confidence and resilience and helping them on that journey.
Q: And the worst…?
A: Typing up supervision notes and anything to do with finance.
Q: Who was your childhood hero?
A: Elvis Presley, such a beautiful man and such a beautiful voice. I was almost 6 years old when he died and I was absolutely devastated.
Q: What’s your favourite smell?
A: Fresh bread from the oven or in my case, the bread maker.
Q: Where’s your favourite place in Dorset?
A: Again, too many to choose from, but Hengistbury Head, Steamer Point and St Catherine’s Hill are favourites as I love walking my dog there.
Q: What advice would you give to anyone starting out on a career?
A: If choice allows, pick a career that fulfils your soul as well as your mind and listen to people, as you can learn so much from them.
Q: What was your first record/CD?
A: I’m so old that it was a cassette not a record/CD and it would have been an Elvis Presley Album, but can’t remember which one.
Q: What gets you angry?
A: People or animals being mistreated.
Q: Do you have a favourite piece of music?
A: Impossible to pick one favourite piece of music but ‘Bring Him Home’ from Les Misérables, ‘Quanta Qualia’ by Patrick Hawes and ‘Jacob’s Oboe’ from The Mission are up there.
Q: What are the qualities you look for in a new employee?
A: Resilience, integrity and experience.
Q: What’s your favourite food or dish?
A: Anything with pasta or a roast dinner.
Q: Steamed sponge pudding and custard or a plate of melon?
A: Treacle sponge with cream not custard.
Q: Name the best thing about living/working in Dorset?
A: I’m born and bred here so I’m totally biased. Dorset has a beautiful coastline, one of the hottest climates in the UK and the New Forest – what’s not to love about living/working here?
Q: If you were Prime Minister for the day what would be the first thing you do?
A: Get the New Domestic Abuse Bill passed.
Q: What’s your biggest frustration?
A: At the moment, lockdown and not being able to hug people.
Q: Where’s your favourite holiday location?
A: Dubrovnik, been several times. Croatia is a beautiful country.
Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time?
A: As a Christian, I try to live my life one day at a time and in obedience to His call, so I can’t answer that as only He knows?
Q: What would you like to be remembered for?
A: Being the best wife/mother/friend I can be, but ultimately for being a woman of faith.
