His death at the age of 66 from prostate cancer robbed the hospitality and entertainment industry of one of its most popular and well-liked figures.

But Ian Goode’s daughter, Carly, is determined that her father’s memory should live on as well as his legacy of organising an annual fundraising event.

And on Saturday October 1, on what would have been Ian’s 70th birthday weekend, the third annual Ian Goode Gala Ball is to be held to raise money and awareness of prostate cancer.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to Lewis-Manning Hospice Care and Poole Hospital NHS Charity.

Originally a Bluecoat, and a very talented drummer, Ian began his career at the holiday camp company Ladbrokes, quickly working his way up the ranks due to his personality and natural talent.

It was here he also met his wife, Irene, who he remained married to for 41 years until his death.

Throughout the years Ian remained a key figure in the industry, especially on the South Coast which Ian, Irene and their two children called home.

As the Manager of Bournemouth’s Pier Theatre, where he became known as ‘Mr Bournemouth’, and also the town’s Manchester Hotel, Ian made, and remained, close friends with many famous faces including Ed ‘Stewpot’ Stewart, Harry Redknapp, Luther Blissett, Freddie Starr and Debra Stevenson.

He also helped start the career of one of Britain’s favourite actresses, Claire Sweeney.

After receiving his cancer diagnosis in 2015, Ian was determined to raise money, and awareness, and began planning to stage the first ever Prostate Cancer Awareness Evening at Key West on Bournemouth Pier.

The event continued in the following years and even within Ian’s last few weeks, aided by his daughter Carly, he was pivotal in the planning of the evening and still wanted to raise as much money as possible.

Carly has since continued Ian’s legacy.

The gala ball will be held at Hoburne Park, Christchurch.

The entertainment line-up includes Motown group The Soul Collective, international comedian Jeff Stevenson and Britain’s Got Talent finalist Tony Rudd.

The host is Ian’s son, Ross, pictured right.

Carly said: “We’re determined to keep Ian’s name carried on in all that he did and remain so proud of all the support we continue to receive.”
