Southwark Council has selected Portland-based Agincare to oversee four of its care homes under a long-term partnership arrangement.

Agincare will take over from current provider Anchor on 3 May. They are set to operate Greenhive Care Home and Waterside Care Home in Peckham, as well as Rose Court Care Home in Rotherhithe and Bluegrove House Care Home in Bermondsey.

Since its founding in 1986, Agincare has grown from a single property in Weymouth to become a leading independent provider of high-quality personalised care across the country, while still remaining family owned.

This partnership marks the latest in a string of transfers from local authorities, charities and independent providers for the business. It also operates retirement villages, home care, extra care schemes, live-in care, and supported living, with its own training company.

The team is working closely with the council and its care home residents to ensure a smooth transition.

Agincare COO Tim Buckley said: “We look forward to warmly welcoming the people living and working at Bluegrove House, Greenhive, Rose Court and Waterside into the Agincare family, and getting to know the local communities.

“Our immediate priority is a positive transfer for the care home teams, residents and their loved ones so that they feel informed, supported and reassured that the homes remain in safe hands.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to work with Southwark Council, the South East London Integrated Care Board and other local organisations across the borough to further develop sustainable, quality service provision and meet changing health and social care needs.”

The contract also provides for future development of reablement, intermediate and nursing care services at Waterside.

Cllr Evelyn Akoto, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing at Southwark Council, added: “We are delighted to welcome Agincare as the new provider for four of our care homes in the borough.

“We are grateful to the residents and their families who helped us choose Agincare as the best team to meet the changing needs of our older people.

“Agincare’s vast experience and commitment to our Residential Care Charter, which is about achieving only the highest standards for staff and residents, means we have every confidence they will do a fantastic job caring for residents.”
