Dorset Business Angels (DBA) is preparing to host its highly anticipated pitch event on 30 September at the Bournemouth Carlton Hotel. The event will showcase five innovative businesses, each presenting their investment opportunities to a group of discerning angel investors.

Diverse investment opportunities on display

The pitch event will feature a wide array of sectors, including air traffic control, women’s sportswear, multicultural catering, and more.

Peter Eales, DBA’s Managing Director, said: “Our September event is shaping up to be particularly diverse and exciting. We’ve selected companies that not only show great promise but also address real-world challenges in innovative ways.”

Highlights from the pitches

Air traffic control platform
One company aims to revolutionise air traffic control systems, replacing outdated paper processes with a subscription-based SaaS platform.

Designed for small to medium-sized airports, the platform allows flexible handling of both commercial and general aviation flights without the hefty capital costs.

The company, which has already secured three airport customers and received approval from the CAA for live trials, is seeking £500,000 to complete trials and begin installations.

Women’s sportswear brand
A growing women’s sportswear company, known for its popular sports bras, is looking to expand into new markets.

The company, which has grown 80 per cent year-on-year since launching in 2018, now sells products in 55 countries and is seeking £400,000 to continue scaling its operations.

Multicultural catering platform
This rapidly growing business connects local chefs with corporate clients, providing a diverse range of international cuisines. With a 228 per cent revenue growth over the last 18 months, the company is now seeking £500,000 to expand further and meet growing demand.

Innovative electrical accessories
Another company is introducing patent-pending electrical accessories that simplify installation and improve safety. Their products, designed to reduce installation times by up to 50 per cent, are expected to transform the market for both professional electricians and DIY users.

Charitable giving platform
A Dorset-based start-up is developing a platform to change the way charitable giving works. Instead of simple monetary donations, users can shop for essential items or support causes more directly. The company is seeking £500,000 to further develop its innovative platform.

A unique opportunity for investors

DBA Director Debbie Frith highlighted the importance of the event: “The September pitch event presents a unique opportunity for investors to engage with businesses at the forefront of innovation in their respective fields.

“From transforming air traffic control to revolutionising charitable giving, these companies represent forward-thinking ventures that can truly make a difference.”

DBA’s approach to investment

Dorset Business Angels connects local High Net Worth (HNW) individuals and Sophisticated Investors (SI) with promising private equity opportunities. Investors can either invest individually or form syndicates, sharing expertise and resources.

Lead Angel Investor Workshop

Ahead of the main event, DBA will host a Lead Angel Investor Workshop to provide insight into due diligence and deal-making processes. Don McQueen emphasised the importance of the workshop: “This workshop is vital. It will equip investors with the tools to play a more active role in due diligence and deal-making.”

Partners and support

DBA partners with BCP Council, TC Group, Ellis Jones, and Rathbones Incorporating Investec Wealth and Investment to support both investors and entrepreneurs.

Get involved

The event on 30 September promises to be an exciting opportunity for investors to connect with early-stage businesses. The DBA welcomes members, HNWs, and SIs who are eager to invest in innovative ventures. Book your place on their website.
