A telecoms company has been praised for its generosity after donating 285 food hampers to two local charities.

Bournemouth-based 4Com presented the hampers to the Trussell Trust, a charity that is working to stop UK hunger and poverty, and to the Christchurch Angels, a local befriending service.

4Com established the 4Com Foundation in 2014 to formalise the company’s various fundraising and other charitable events.

Chris Duley, Onboarding Coordinator at 4Com, played a key role in the hamper initiative.

He said: “I thoroughly enjoy helping to organise the Christmas food hampers we donate.

“They’re needed more than ever this year and I am so pleased that we are able to support these charities.”

With the current cost of living crisis, The Trussell Trust announced that there has been an unprecedented increase in demand for emergency food hampers with a 14 per cent rise in the number issued in the past year.

But the greater demand this Christmas coincides with less food being donated.

John Saborido, Marketing & Communications Manager, Bournemouth Food Bank, said: “We cannot thank 4Com enough for their continued support and generous donation to our Bournemouth Food Bank.

“Each year we see a rise in people using our food bank.

“With the current cost of living crisis, this year is especially tough, which is why we are always so grateful for every donation or helping hand that we get.”

In addition to The Trussell Trust’s Bournemouth and Salisbury foodbanks, the 4Com Foundation is also supplying food hampers to Christchurch Angels.

The befriending service, which falls under the Christchurch Community Partnership (CCP), provides short-term volunteer support to those who don’t have a network of family or friends available to support them in times of crisis or illness.

Sandra Prudom, CCP Chief Executive Officer, said, “As always, we are immensely grateful to 4Com who do so much with us for our older and often socially isolated clients throughout the year.

“They love the wonderful hampers with Christmas goodies that 4Com have provided for the past three years – particularly through the Covid pandemic when we were unable to host our Christmas Day lunch.

“4Com is a wonderful model of how local businesses can support their community and we thank them for their generosity.”

Similarly to previous years, the 4Com Foundation purchased the food, boxes, and labels before packing the boxes and delivering to The Trussell Trust and Christchurch Angels.

4Com’s staff volunteered on their lunch breaks to box up the food hampers.

Dean Cartledge, 4Com’s Chief Operating Officer and the Head of the 4Com Foundation, pictured left, said “I am absolutely delighted that we are partnering with these charities again this festive period.

“With this time of year being so difficult for many, it is important to us that we do what we can to support our local community.

“We have an amazing team here at 4Com that have gone above and beyond, once again, to ensure those in need this Christmas will not go without”.
