This week under the spotlight is Artist Judith Opsblum.
Her favourite smell is pine trees, her first album was ABBA’s Arrival and she loves a cream tea…
What is your favourite TV show?
It’s difficult to choose, but The Ranganation is hilarious and I love to people watch, and this is basically seeing people in their own homes chatting to Romesh.
Who would you like to share a car with?
David Attenborough, travelling with him while he does a documentary. I love hearing his distinctive calming voice and he’s so knowledgeable.
The best bit of my job is..?
Being an artist means I can do what I love all day every day! What’s not to love about that.
And the worst?
Having to sell my art, as I haven’t got a business mind, I just love the creativity side!
Who was your childhood hero?
David Attenborough, I always loved watching his wildlife programmes.
What’s your favourite smell?
Pine trees. Luckily, I walk through a forest full of them most days with my dog Leia.
Where’s your favourite place in Dorset?
I can’t choose one, I love the variety of the New Forest, Wareham Forest and the Dorset coast.
What advice would you give to anyone starting out on a career?
Follow your dreams, you do your best at something you are passionate about.
What was your first record/CD?
ABBA’s Arrival album on vinyl
What makes you angry?
Any animal cruelty
How do you reward yourself?
By buying shoes!
Do you have a favourite piece of music?
It really depends on my mood. I enjoyed London Grammar’s album whilst creating my latest mannequin artwork, especially ‘Lord it’s a feeling’
What’s your favourite food or dish?
It has to be cream tea
What three things would you take to a desert island?
I would take a camera (with a solar panel charger), a bundle of pencils and lots of paper!
What’s the best thing about living/working in Dorset?
Dorset is friendly place. It has the best of both, having the New Forest for countryside and Jurassic Coast for coastal walks. I need to live close to the sea.
If you were Prime Minister for a day, what’s the first thing you’d do?
I would ensure there was an affordable housing project.
What advice would you give your younger self?
I would tell them to be more confident. Don’t allow people to hold you back.
Where’s your favourite holiday location?
India is amazing, because it has such interesting traditional cultures, it’s has beautiful and nature, buildings and art, it’s vibrant and colourful and people are super friendly
Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time?
I would love to have a big warehouse, for more space to create my art and somewhere to sell it.
What would you like to be remembered for?
I would like to be remembered for making people happy through my art.
