All his life Adam Kiddell has loved helping people.

From his weekend job, selling high end furniture to help pay his way through college and university, to managing a number of corporate jets out of Bournemouth Airport for high net worth individuals.

And it was there that the idea for his future business – The Dorset Concierge – was born.

Adam, 41, from Swanage, said: “I would describe it as my real defining time.

“There was one occasion when I had a call from a particular individual at about midnight on a Saturday night from the South Pole.

“He was on the satellite phone and wanted to get a journey home.

“It was really quite demanding, working from home and setting up his journey back.

“In those types of situations, and it’s a corny quote, but failure isn’t an option.

“You have to deliver, it’s as simple as that.

“That’s what I do and I love it.

“It’s always challenging, there are always problems but you overcome them and you adapt.

“At that point I was very much a concierge service and there was a realisation in me that there is a market out there.”

For the last decade, Adam has worked for Swanage-based JM Adventure Ltd, the UK’s leading ropes course construction company.

He continues in his role as Head of Operations but, from July, also launched his own business, The Dorset Concierge.

Adam, who is married to Jo and has two children aged six and nine, said: “I want to develop my skills.

“I’ve cut my teeth in various other roles but I felt it was the right step to develop The Dorset Concierge from the concept into reality.

“The people of Dorset – and beyond – really need someone to help them when they don’t have time to do it themselves, someone they can trust to get it done.

“The Dorset Concierge is a lifestyle and business concierge, born from a desire to help people get what they need, when they need it.

“It could be from private shopping to private jets including personal assistance, leisure and lifestyle, travel and property.

“But my bread and butter is, perhaps, a second home owner in Swanage saying they’d like their fridge stocked for the weekend.

“Or it could be they want a gift for their partner, waiting for them when they arrive.

“I also do business to business.

“They’d like an event run and it would be down for me to organise that.

“Finding those unique, special venues.

“I become the ‘go-to’ and if they need help well, they speak to Adam.”

Adam plans to gradually reduce his days with JM Adventure as demand for The Dorset Concierge builds.

He said: “It’s been tougher than I expected in that I’ve started from zero.

“I’ve had to introduce myself to the world and lay out my wares.

“I’ve particularly worked hard with the hotels and they’re bringing in regular, refreshed trade every week.

“I also want The Dorset Concierge to promote Dorset and show off all the incredible people, businesses and places we have to offer.

“I love it and the buzz it gives me.

“The reception I’ve received has been very positive.

“It’s always challenging to launch mid-year and, essentially, into a recession but when is there a good time?

“However, the high net worth market is very much here and, with the gentrification of Sandbanks, Studland and moving this way [Swanage] it can only increase.

“But whoever needs my help, I will help them.

“It’s as simple as that.”
