One of Dorset’s best-known and most respected businessmen is to have an award named after him.

Robert Braithwaite CBE DL, the founder of Sunseeker International, died in March this year. He was 75.

Universally liked and regarded as a true gentleman, he was a firm believer in apprenticeships and their important role in delivering hands-on training, knowledge and brand loyalty.

Now the organisers of the BHStar Awards 2020 have announced a special award has been created in order to keep his legacy alive.

The Robert Braithwaite CBE DL Apprentice Award will go to the individual judged to be showing true star quality after going down the apprenticeship route.

It is among 26 categories in this year’s awards which recognise and celebrate service, hospitality and tourism and business sectors, as well as individuals, within the BH postcode area.

The awards are organised by RoutePR and Events.

Jackie Phillipson, Co-Founder, who worked at Sunseeker International for 21 years, latterly as Head of International PR and Marketing, said: “This is highly personal for myself and members of my team.

“We were lucky to know Robert professionally and personally and I was so lucky to have him as a mentor.

“Many of the values I bring to business today have an element of learning on the job from my years working alongside him.

“The Apprentice Award recognises somebody who has made a commitment to learn their craft on the job too and who displays passion for their chosen industry.”

Hoburne Holidays is the headline sponsor for this year’s awards. As part of its title sponsorship, the family owned company will host the celebratory semi-final event in early 2020 followed by the gala awards ceremony at the end of February.
