Here’s where we shine the spotlight on a leading light in Dorset and ask him, or her, for answers to our part fun/part serious questionnaire.

This time…She’d like to share a car with Beyoncé, chooses Sir David Attenborough as her childhood – and present day – hero and would like to be remembered for having made a real difference to thousands of women’s lives.

Kate Taylor, Founder, Evenly (evenlybreasts.com) takes the 20 Questions’ hot seat.

Question: What is your favourite TV show?

A: This Is Us; what an emotional rollercoaster in every episode.

Q: Who would you like to share a car with?

A: Beyoncé – imagine the car pool karaoke!

Q: The best bit of my job is…?

A: Helping women who need us and receiving their kind words of gratitude and encouragement for the business.

Q: And the worst?

A: Not ever feeling like there are enough hours in the day to do all that I want to! It’s a worthwhile price to pay for having work I feel so passionate about though.

Q: Who was your childhood hero?

A: Sir David Attenborough. In fact, he still is as I love animals and our natural world.

Q: What’s your favourite smell?

A: The seaside, you just can’t beat it. Hence why I decided to move to Dorset in 2014 after growing up in land-locked Buckinghamshire.

Q: Where’s your favourite place in Dorset?

A: Southbourne beach. I was fortunate enough to live in an apartment two minutes’ walk away for many years but moved to Wimborne in 2021 to have more space for my daughter who was born that year. We still like to visit the beach as often as we can though.

Q: What advice would you give to anyone starting out on a career?

A: Not to over think it! I agonised over my degree and career choice for ages before opting for IT, wondering endlessly whether it was the right choice for me, as though I could never change. After a career working for IBM and then in digital marketing across the UK, Canada and Australia for brands including WWF, RNLI and Lush Cosmetics, I completely pivoted in 2021 to running my own business, Evenly, full-time. Although my IT skills definitely come in handy in my business, especially when it came to setting up a website, I would say my initial career path didn’t ultimately matter as I still managed to find an incredibly enjoyable and fulfilling career in a completely different field!

Q: What was your first record/CD?

A: Bobby Brown, ‘Two Can Play That Game’. You still can’t beat 90’s R&B!

Q: What gets you angry?

A: People who are unkind to others, animals or the environment.

Q: Do you have a favourite piece of music?

A: See answer to the question above – any 90’s R&B always gets me dancing!

Q: What are the qualities you look for in a new employee?

A: A true understanding of the ethos of the brand – that it is not women’s bodies which need changing or fixing, it is the unrealistically symmetrical bras that do!

Q: What’s your favourite food or dish?

A: Sweetcorn. I put it literally in everything, it’s a bit of an obsession.

Q: Steamed sponge pudding and custard or a plate of melon?

A: I do love melon, but it’s got to be pudding and custard, especially in chilly weather!

Q: Name the best thing about living/working in Dorset?

A: I would say the incredible natural spaces we’re surrounded by from the New Forest, to the beaches, to the Jurassic Coast. We are so incredibly lucky to have so much on our doorstep.

Q: If you were Prime Minister for the day what would be the first thing you do?

A: Gosh, where to start?! If I only had a very limited time, I would give some more attention to the Women’s Health Strategy for England released last year. It’s a great start but so much more work needs to be done in this area.

Q: What’s your biggest frustration?

A: The lack of support for women struggling with breast asymmetry from healthcare providers. I do understand the need for cost-cutting in the NHS, however, funding for breast asymmetry correction surgery is very rarely granted at the current time and reports recently in the media have suggested that all surgery for congenital breast asymmetry may soon be cut completely. A number of studies show that breast asymmetry has very real physical and psychological effects on women including back, neck and shoulder pain, poor posture and low self-esteem which can really affect their quality of life.

Q:  Where’s your favourite holiday location?

A: I am a huge lover of travel and have been fortunate to visit many exotic and unusual locations in my time including Israel, Mexico, Hong Kong, Kenya, Thailand, Japan, Cambodia and New Zealand. However, my favourite holiday spot is San Diego in the USA. Its beaches are almost as beautiful as Dorset’s, just with more sunshine!

Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time?

A: Hopefully, still at the helm of Evenly, having expanded operations internationally, brought more innovations to market and scaled up a passionate workforce.

Q: What would you like to be remembered for?

A: Having made a real difference to thousands of women’s lives.
