Each week we shine the spotlight on a member of Dorset’s business community and ask him, or her, for answers to our part fun/part serious questionnaire. This time…

Her childhood heroes were Freddie Mercury and Elizabeth the First; she gets angry at rudeness, injustice and a lack of empathy; chooses the top of Abbotsbury Hill as her favourite place in Dorset and strongly recommends watermelon with balsamic vinegar saying: “Give it a try. It’s a gamechanger”.

Catherine Bolado, Founder, Jurassic Creative PR and Marketing, takes the 20 Questions’ hot seat. 

Question: What is your favourite TV show?

Answer: Anything with David Attenborough or The Simpsons. (I don’t really watch TV so if I do I want something that inspires me or makes me laugh.)

Q: Who would you like to share a car with?

A: Charlize Theron (or if we can time travel, Freddie Mercury).

Q: The best bit of my job is…?

A: Helping people shout about their amazing stories and getting great results. I really enjoy making people happy and getting coverage for clients gives me a huge buzz.

Q: And the worst…?

A: I think everyone says admin, right?

Q: Who was your childhood hero?

A: Freddie Mercury and Elizabeth the First.

Q: What’s your favourite smell?

A: The sea.

Q: Where’s your favourite place in Dorset?

A: The top of Abbotsbury Hill, where you get the view looking towards Weymouth and over St Catherine’s Chapel.

Q: What advice would you give to anyone starting out on a career?

A: Flexibility and transferable skills are so important. The ability to pivot and change up ideas and be willing to learn is vital. I think the term ‘Jack of All Trades’ gets a bad reputation and that’s unfair. If you can be helpful in any area, with the skills to match, then you’re on to a winner.

Q: What was your first record/CD?

A: Probably something embarrassing like Take That!

Q: What gets you angry?

A: Rudeness, injustice and a lack of empathy.

Q: Do you have a favourite piece of music?

A: It changes all the time. I love to listen to music and podcasts and have a pretty eclectic taste. I listen to a lot of trance (without vocals,) when I’m working, it’s really great for focus.

Q: What are the qualities you look for in a new employee?

A: A great attitude – someone who wants to learn and get stuck in. You can teach the right skills but you can’t teach a great attitude.

Q: What’s your favourite food or dish?

A: Pizza. It’s a versatile food group.

Q: Steamed sponge pudding and custard or a plate of melon?

A: Watermelon with balsamic vinegar. Give it a try. It’s a gamechanger.

Q: Name the best thing about living/working in Dorset?

A: Living by the beach. We are incredibly lucky to live in such an incredibly beautiful place. I love running by the sea.

Q: If you were Prime Minister for the day what would be the first thing you do?

A: I’d call Her Majesty the Queen. I think she’s brilliant and I’d love to hear her thoughts on the UK. Then I’d change the locks and get planning….. ?

Q: What’s your biggest frustration?

A: People dropping litter and people not looking after the environment in general. It’s so counterproductive – we only have one planet after all.

Q:  Where’s your favourite holiday location?

A: Ibiza. People think it’s just a party island, but away from the clubs, it is the most chilled out and beautiful place with hidden beaches and coves everywhere.

Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time?

A: Gosh, what a huge question! I’d always want to continue to grow and develop as a person and a business owner. I’d like to travel more and keep being curious and exploring. I want to always have a positive impact on people and projects around me.

Q: What would you like to be remembered for?

A: Leaving the world a little bit brighter and more hopeful than when I arrived.
