Each week we shine the spotlight on a member of Dorset’s business community and ask him, or her, for answers to our part fun/part serious questionnaire. This time…

Her favourite food is a simple fish dish; she gets angry at lies, rudeness and being discourteous; chooses St Lucia as her favourite holiday location and says that, currently, her biggest frustration is not being able to meet up with both her children to give them a hug because “I miss them dreadfully”.

Jacqui Rock, Poole BID Lead and President, Bournemouth Chamber of Trade and Commerce, takes the 20 Questions’ hot seat. 

Question: What is your favourite TV show?

Answer: I don’t really watch TV (too busy!). But my most favourite movie is Les Miserables. I just love its underlying message.

Q: Who would you like to share a car with?

A: My Mum, who I miss everyday.

Q: The best bit of my job is…?

A: Being free to be creative and seeing my ideas come to life that help and (hopefully) inspire others too.

Q: And the worst…?

A: Never having enough time.

Q: Who was your childhood hero?

A: Margaret Thatcher. There was no doubting her strength of character!

Q: What’s your favourite smell?

A: A freshly lit match.

Q: Where’s your favourite place in Dorset?

A: The beach. I am so blessed to be so close and this has become even more poignant to me in the past 12 months during lockdown.

Q: What advice would you give to anyone starting out on a career?

A: Follow your heart, not money. Your passion will drive you to where you want to be and that is life’s true success in the end.

Q: What was your first record/CD?

A: I’m showing my age – the one I remember is The Jam – Sound Affects.

Q: What gets you angry?

A: Lies, projection, rudeness and being discourteous.

Q: Do you have a favourite piece of music?

A: There are too many to mention, but when I hear ‘The Last Post’, there is something about that piece of music that makes me stop and listen. The hairs on the back of my neck stand up every time I hear it.

Q: What are the qualities you look for in a new employee?

A: Being logical, open-minded, enthusiastic and someone who focuses on detail.

Q: What’s your favourite food or dish?

A: A simple fish dish.

Q: Steamed sponge pudding and custard or a plate of melon?

A: I love melon too, but I’d have to say steamed sponge pudding, but without the custard.

Q: Name the best thing about living/working in Dorset?

A: My family, friends and the scenery. We have it all here.

Q: If you were Prime Minister for the day what would be the first thing you do?

A: Have a snoop around 10 Downing Street ?. You said the ‘first thing’!

Q: What’s your biggest frustration?

A: Presently, not being able to meet up with both my children to give them a hug. I miss them dreadfully.

Q:  Where’s your favourite holiday location?

A: St Lucia.

Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time?

A: I know its a cliché, but literally six months here and six months in a warmer climate during the winter.

Q: What would you like to be remembered for?

A: To have been an inspiration to at least one person and leaving the legacy for my children: that you can be anything you want to be.
