New consumer boat show comes to Dorset in August

A new boat show is taking place in Dorset later this year.

Portland & Weymouth is to host Boat Expo Live with the backdrop of Osprey Quay and the waters of Portland Harbour and Weymouth Bay.

Organisers say it will create the perfect setting for the new consumer show with easy access by road, rail, or boat.

It is also ideally located for leisure boating enthusiasts with the venue acting as a fully operational marina.

Boat Expo Live is from August 4 to 7.

The event is free to enter with plenty of car parking available on-site and at the neighbouring Chesil beach car parks, a three-minute walk away.

For public transport, there is a regular bus service from Weymouth rail station to the Osprey Quay.

Young carers enjoy live theatre thanks to Lighthouse appeal

Young carers have been making the most of a break from their daily lives to enjoy the magic of live theatre.

Thanks to the generosity of donors to the annual Big Christmas Appeal, Lighthouse, Poole, has been able to provide thousands of free and discounted tickets to children, families and people who might not otherwise be able to experience live entertainment.

Kate Halden, Programme Administrator at MYTIME Young Carers, the Dorset-based charity working to support young carers aged five to 25, said: “Young carers can experience high levels of stress and anxiety because of the responsibilities they have within their families.

Being treated to a live performance at Lighthouse provides an opportunity to let their hair down, share family time and simply enjoy a carefree evening of entertainment.

“Experiences like these have a hugely positive impact on the young carers we support.”

This week a group of young carers was able to join the opening night audience at Lighthouse for David Walliams’ Gangsta Granny.

Over the last year, Lighthouse has given more than 15,000 free or discounted tickets to children, families and people who experience disadvantage.

Elspeth McBain, Chief Executive, said: “Lighthouse is delighted to be able to support these remarkable young people who take on many responsibilities to help their families so that they can enjoy the experience of live theatre, and have some well-earned entertainment.

This is making a huge difference and having a profound impact on many young people’s lives.

“As a charity Lighthouse relies on the amazing generosity of donors, as well as grants and sponsorship, to ensure that we are available to everyone no matter what their background or circumstances.”
