JTYAF trustees allocate £85,000 for awards in 2023
Trustees of the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) have allocated £85,000 for awards in 2023.
The funding will support local young people by providing them with scholarships and bursaries helping their personal development and the pursuit of their ambitions.
JTYAF was set up in 2008 in memory of Lieutenant John Thornton RM who was tragically killed in Afghanistan while serving with 40 Commando Royal Marines.
The aim of the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation is to encourage and assist young people to ‘climb as high as they can dream.’
Whatever their dream, the JTYAF hopes to help them achieve it.
The Trustees selected 19 youth organisations for support in 2023.
They included Ferndown Upper School, Ferndown First and Middle Schools, Beaucroft Foundation School, the Guides and Scouts and the Bournemouth Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets.
Funding was also set aside for young people who are not members of any of the supported organisations, increasing the reach and diversity of the Foundation within the community.
The charity’s supporters and volunteers have taken the JTYAF to levels never imagined in the early days.
Since the charity was formed in 2008, £935,000 has been awarded to almost 2,500 individual young people together with countless whole school and group projects.
The charity has also funded the lease of a 17-seater minibus for the last seven years, which serves all the local schools and numerous youth organisations.

Daish’s Holidays confirms boost in bookings for 2023 staycations
Daish’s Holidays, the Bournemouth-based independent family-owned coach holiday group, has reported a 44 per cent increase in January bookings immediately following the Christmas period compared to last year.
It follows the group’s most successful Christmas during its 44-year history with hotel occupancy across its 12-strong hotel chain up by 21 per cent compared to Christmas 2021.
The figures support a recent survey stating that the percentage of people who will choose a staycation in 2023 has more than tripled, rising from just 12 per cent to 41 per cent.
Paul Harper, Commercial Director at Daish’s Holidays, said: “The booking figures we have seen in recent months are extremely encouraging and could highlight that the UK travel and tourism is thriving once again following being hit hard by the pandemic.
“These are all encouraging signs and we are witnessing that our occupancy is on the up.”
Daish’s portfolio of hotels includes the Hotel Prince Regent and Russell Hotel, Weymouth, and Bournemouth Sands Hotel, Bournemouth.

Sentinel expand into Branksome Business Park with Goadsby help
Goadsby, acting on behalf of a private client, has successfully completed the letting of the first floor office of 17 Branksome Business Park, Poole.
