Businesses from across Dorset and Hampshire attended a ‘Back to the Future’ event staged by chartered accountants Saffery Champness.

Held at AFC Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium it included breakfast and networking, followed by a seminar with presentations from Saffery staff.

Opening the event, Roger Wareham, Head of Bournemouth Office and Partner, gave an update on what the firm is seeing locally with its client base.

He also outlined how the team is supporting clients including:

  • Ownership structuring
  • Group restructuring
  • International expansion
  • Accelerated exit planning
  • Attracting and retaining key staff
  • Ensuring business owners are ‘match fit’ for growth and future transactions
  • Sustainability and climate responsibilities

Partner David Chismon talked through current personal tax matters following the Budget including the ongoing use of trusts, family investment companies, and incorporating property businesses.

He also touched on the areas HMRC is looking at in the offshore arena.

Finally, Richard Meller, Tax Director, discussed planning opportunities ahead of the rise in corporate tax rates, the breadth of reliefs available for companies incurring capital expenditure and provided an update on topical issues the Safferys team are seeing as businesses bounce back from lockdown.

Roger said: “It was fantastic to see so many of our clients and professional contacts in person again.

“We’ve had some great conversations and are looking forward to supporting them over the next phase of the Covid cycle.”
