Hotels benefit from £1m investment to prepare for staycation boom

More than £1m has been invested by Daish’s Holidays into its hotel portfolio in readiness for the staycation boom.

The holiday operator owns 12 hotels in ten popular tourist destinations across the UK including Bournemouth and Weymouth.

Bournemouth Sands Hotel on the West Cliff, pictured left, is one of Daish’s hotels which has undergone a significant refurbishment.

The completed work includes the modernisation of a number of bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms to give a new contemporary look.

Paul Harper, Commercial Director of Daish’s Holidays, said: “We used our enforced closures over the past year to carry out an extensive refurbishment programme which would prepare our hotels for the current staycation boom.

“Daish’s has received bumper bookings across the board that lead right up to Christmas so it was important to make this investment now.”

Additionally, the Russell Hotel and Hotel Prince Regent, both on Weymouth’s The Esplanade, have benefitted from Daish’s refurbishment programme.

The internal public areas of the Prince Regent have received a full redecoration, including the restaurant.

A number of bedrooms have also had walk-in showers installed to aid older guests.

At the Russell Hotel, pictured right, the bar, restaurant, reception and ballroom have all been redecorated.

Also a selection of bedrooms now have a refreshed look including the accompanying en-suite bathrooms.

Paul added: “Daish’s would never usually have the opportunity to carry out a refurbishment on this scale while our hotels were fully operational, so we proactively used this downtime to carefully plan and roll out these works.

“We are so proud of the final results and look forward to receiving feedback from our loyal guests and new faces this summer.”

Care South awards £2,000 from first ‘Chairman’s 2020 Fund’

Lewis-Manning Hospice Care has received £2,000 from the first ‘Care South Chairman’s 2020 Fund’.

The hospice charity was nominated by Simon Bird, Care South’s Chief Executive, with agreement from the fund’s committee.

The Care South 2020 Chairman’s Fund was established with the aim of benefitting Care South employees, volunteers and community groups providing a community service to its homes, care at home offices, clients or residents.

Simon said: “The fund was set up to enable us to give back to the community and support those who support us.

“It is great to be able to award this grant to such a purposeful charity which sits at the heart of this community.

“Care South and Lewis-Manning Hospice Care share very similar values which is why we are so pleased to support the incredible work that they do locally.”

The two not-for-profit organisations announced in April that they had formed a charity partnership and would work on a series of initiatives together.

Workwear Pro Direct flies high with aviation heritage centre

A workwear company with an office in Dorchester rose to the challenge when Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre was seeking branded clothing.

The aerospace museum, located next to the RAF St Mawgan air base, near Newquay, has more than 20,000 visitors a year, including young families, aviation enthusiasts and school groups.

The museum team were keen to start the 2021 summer season with a new clothing range for the onsite gift shop and as a keen aviator Martin Perry, pictured right, Founder of Workwear Pro Direct (WWPD) was only too happy to assist.

WWPD’s in-house graphic designer created numerous ideas for consideration, with the company’s creative team going well beyond the traditional museum branded clothing which had been sold for the previous five years.

They designed a selection of desirable garments with unique imagery as well as several humorous t-shirts and hoodies.

WWPD also sourced new point of sale racking, to improve the retail look of the collection in the giftshop, and is supporting retail sales further by building an online shop.

The new range is proving highly popular with the directors of Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre impressed with both the imaginative designs and also the quality of garments selected.
