Lisa joins the team at Encore Care Homes

A new Clinical Operations Manager has joined Encore Care Homes.

Lisa Barnes-Metcalf brings more than 30 years of care experience to the Encore team which is based across four purpose-built care homes in Dorset and Hampshire.

She will work in the newly-created role with the care home managers, registered nurses, and the senior clinical team to provide operational support, guidance, training and development.

Lisa’s career has seen her work her way up through all job roles within the care industry.

She started as a care assistant before training as a registered nurse at Poole Hospital and progressing into more senior roles at hospitals in both Bournemouth and Poole.

Lisa advanced to senior level management whilst working for several local care home providers, where she saw many of the homes receive ‘Outstanding’ ratings from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

She joins Mike Lyons, Managing Director, and Lindsay Rees, Director of Health and Care, in the senior team at Encore Care Homes.

It provides residential, nursing and dementia care at Great Oaks in Bournemouth, Oakdale in Poole, Fairmile Grange in Christchurch and Hamble Heights in Fareham.

Lindsay, pictured right, said: “Lisa brings with her the winning combination of operational leadership experience and clinical expertise.

“This experience combined with her commitment to driving forward high standards of care and compliance with regulation makes her the ideal person to lead and mentor our home managers and clinical leads.”

Lots close for Dorset Visual Arts online auction

Lots have now closed for the Dorset Visual Arts online auction.

Twenty Dorset artists and 77 items covering paintings, paintings, prints, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, jewellery, silver, mixed media and stoneware were featured in the auction.

It was held in conjunction with The Auction Hub and Dorset Visual Arts.

James Harvey, Founder and Managing Director of The Auction Hub, pictured right, said: “The lockdown has been hard for the artist as the normal way of selling through exhibitions has been shut down.

“The Auction Hub provides the artist with an online platform for selling their works of art during this difficult time.

“This curated auction offered an exciting opportunity to purchase work by talented Dorset artists and to support the creative arts outside a gallery space.”

The full cataloguing details and images were available to be seen until March 27.

Dorset Visual Arts is a not for profit organisation and a registered charity.

Its membership includes around 300 artists, designers and makers both living and practising in Dorset.

JTYAF awards £10,000 in scholarships and bursaries to 24 students

Twenty four students at Ferndown Upper School have received £10,000 in burseries and scholarships from the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation.

The three scholarships include Leon Metelsky who is hoping to become a professional ballet dancer.

He is currently auditioning for full-time vocational ballet schools all around the world and has already secured places at the Vaganova Ballet Academy in St Petersburg, Russia, and the Akademie des Tanzes Mannheim in Germany.

Leon, pictured left, will represent Team England at the Dance World Cup in Spain in July.

He used his award to pay for his dance training, the cost of two associate courses, new ballet shoes and for the rental of the dance studio to film his audition videos.

Another scholarship winner aims to study textiles at university.

She has used her award to buy an embroidery machine that will help take her sewing skills to a professional level.

A scholarship was awarded to a gifted musician who aims to follow a career in music.

The 24 bursaries provide a range of equipment to support students studying art, photography, textiles and IT.

They include an award to cover accommodation costs for a student to attend a 14-week Level 1 Diploma in Racehourse Care and covering the cost of a desk for a student to study at home.

“At such an uncertain and challenging time for young people these awards are more important than ever, recognising achievement, encouraging success, and inspiring the students to ‘Climb as High as they can Dream.’
