‘Curry Queen’ in the spotlight at the House of Lords

Dorset entrepreneur Sarah Ali Choudhury was among the speakers as small business campaign f:Entrepreneur celebrated its #ialso100 list of female business owners with a reception at the House of Lords.

The campaign highlights inspiring female business leaders across the UK.

Sarah – known to thousands as Dorset’s Curry Queen – was invited to speak about her experience of being on the  f:Entrepreneur #ialso100 List for 2019.

She shared her successes over the past year which included:

  • Featuring in Forbes
  • Presenting a BBC programme
  • Being a Smile Ambassador for Dental Concepts
  • Collaborating with Podcast Labs for The Curry Queen Podcast
  • Various book endorsements and speaking opportunities

The #ialso100 is a collection of female entrepreneurs, recognised for inspiring their peers and communities through their businesses and wider activities.

The aim of f:Entrepreneur is to showcase multi-achieving women in the #ialso100, to provide lessons of challenge and success for all small business founders – both men and women.

The campaign is built around a programme of content, stories and events including roundtables, Q&A sessions and panels as well as larger all-day events in the lead-up to International Women’s Day on March 8.

f:Entrepreneur is run by Small Business Britain, the UK’s champion of small businesses, which offers support, knowledge and access to the country’s 5.8m small businesses – no matter their location, their industry, or their size.

Both f:Entrepreneur and Small Business Britain were founded by Michelle Ovens MBE, who is also director of Small Business Saturday.

Michelle spoke at the House of Lords event alongside event host and former cabinet secretary Lord Young of Graffham.

The event was supported by fintech business banking platform Tide.

New Director joins Lester Aldridge’s Dispute Resolution team

John Turner is joining the Dispute Resolution team at Bournemouth-based law firm Lester Aldridge as a Director.

He has almost 20 years’ experience across a number of fields of dispute resolution with his main focus in recent years on disputes relating to property.

John is a member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS).

LA’s Dispute Resolution team services all sectors, advising on a broad range of contentious real estate matters, contentious probate matters and all areas of commercial litigation and dispute resolution.

Kate Stewart, Partner and Head of the Dispute Resolution team, said: “John brings with him significant expertise that will be an invaluable support to the future growth of the DR team.”

Mploy takes up residence at Poundbury

Recruitment agency Mploy has relocated to Poundbury after outgrowing its previous office on High East Street in Dorchester town centre.

Staff and clients were invited to its new Bridport Road site to enjoy drinks and nibbles and have a look at the new office.

Nicki Hayton, Branch Director, Mploy Dorchester, said: “We were so pleased with how our opening party went and it was great to see so many faces both new and old.”
