“Significant achievement” as Norco is awarded AS9100D certification
Norco has demonstrated its ability to work at the highest possible standard required for the aviation, space and defence sectors.
The composite manufacturer has been awarded AS9100D certification at its new Winfrith manufacturing facility.
The standard sets requirements for implementing a Quality Management System (QMS) that improves the quality of products and services and enhances customer satisfaction.
By managing, controlling, and auditing its own processes, as well as having an outside certification body verifying that its QMS meets the requirements, Norco says its customers can be assured that manufacturing standards are as high as possible.
Justin Cull, Norco’s Quality HSE Manager, pictured left, said: “Gaining AS9100D certification is a significant achievement for Norco that sets out our commitment to our defence and aerospace customers to supply them to the highest possible standards.
“The whole team have worked hard for this over the last 18 months.
“Anyone who understands the AS9100 process will know that implementing and gaining certification to this standard is difficult and understandably so.”
The new certification is for Norco’s 30,000 sq. ft secure Winfrith facility which was purpose-built at Dorset Innovation Park to facilitate a long-term defence contract.

Law firm donates £2,000 for new careers hub
Dorset law firm Coles Miller has donated £2,000 to Parkstone Grammar School in Poole to help create a new central careers hub.
Previously the school’s careers area was based within its main library.
Now the school has converted an office room into the smart new hub.
Headteacher David Hallsworth said: “I would like to offer a massive thank you to Coles Miller Solicitors for their very generous £2,000 donation towards the refurbishment of the careers hub.
“With their support, we’ve been able to place the hub centrally within the school – enabling much easier access and giving careers an even greater profile.”
Coles Miller has a long history of supporting the Sopers Lane school through initiatives such as Dorset Young Chamber.
The Careers & Enterprise Company encourages schools to have an Enterprise Adviser from local business.
Parkstone Grammar School’s adviser is Coles Miller Associate Solicitor Nicola Wootten.
Adrian Cormack, Coles Miller’s Managing Partner and a governor at the school, pictured right, said: “We’re delighted to have had the opportunity to assist the school with creating a new space for students to research and discuss their future careers.
“We’ve supported the school for a number of years by providing an adviser and assisting with different careers events to help students.”

Music lovers celebrate cultural diversity in Christchurch
The songs and rhythms of Africa, Turkey and Italy will be ringing out in the Christchurch Quomps tomorrow, Saturday July 10.
A line-up of Dorset-based musicians have come together to express the culture and diversity in the community.
The free live-event, from 3pm to 6pm, promises to be a fun afternoon of music-making for all ages with African drumming workshops, Turkish dance songs, Africoustic sounds and duo Daniela and Francesco performing Italian Neapolitan melodies.
The artists are a small taste of Dorset’s World of Love Festival, which is working in conjunction with BCP Council’s Festival Coast Live! events running throughout the summer months.
The World of Love Festival is held on August 28-29 at Kings Park.
It will also be live streamed to a wider audience on Facebook and YouTube.
Organiser Bea Sieradzka, pictured left, said: “We’re raising positive awareness of the rich cultural diversity that thrives in Dorset, as well as introducing audiences to new music and experiences that we think they’ll love.
“The World of Love Festival itself is an umbrella event for diverse communities and a celebration of cultures and languages of the world.
“Our aim is to promote equality of opportunity, build relationships and increase social inclusion for our culturally and linguistically diverse society.”

Web design agency celebrates first six months in business
Web design agency Koreti has celebrated a successful first six months .
The Poole-based agency has described business as brisk. resulting in the recruitment of a third developer and advertising for a fourth.
Customers to date include Quandrant2Design and Amspac with several large, complex eCommerce sites in the pipeline and due to go live in coming weeks.
The four directors include Alan Jenkins, who founded exhibition company Quadrant2Design with his wife, Elizabeth, in November 1999, and Ross Pike.
Ross, pictured left, said: “In our experience too many agencies work towards their own agenda, producing designs that they want to create rather than what works for the customer.
“We wanted to start an agency that really listened to and understood the needs of the customer.
“We have both been directors of SMEs so we understand what they want from a website.’
“We have the capabilities to expand further with the new staff we are recruiting now so the future looks bright.”

Mayor attends carbon neutral care home’s re-launch celebration
Poole Mayor Cllr Julie Bagwell was among the guests at a celebratory open weekend at the UK’s first carbon neutral care home.
The Birds Hill Road home, which provides residential and assisted living care, has been relaunched as Eagles Mount Green Community.
Also marking the reopening of the home to the wider community after lockdown, a weekend-long afternoon tea party was held to celebrate the relaunch.
Visitors, including residents’ families, prospective residents and members of the wider community, enjoyed complimentary cream teas and refreshments.
They also had the chance to explore the new-look ground floor rooms following a £50,000 refurbishment and find out more about Eagles Mount becoming the first carbon neutral care home in the UK.
Sam Hoskins, Operations Director at Luxurycare Group, which operates Eagles Mount and five other care homes locally, said: “We loved welcoming so many visitors over this celebratory weekend and sharing what it means for us to be a green community.

“The very fact that we have renamed and rebranded as Eagles Mount Green Community is testament to our passionate commitment to doing all we can minimise our environmental impact and help protect our planet.
Eagles Mount was certified carbon neutral following a £25,000 investment in green energy infrastructure including dozens of solar panels across the roof and carbon offsetting.
