Pip Hare Ocean Racing finds land berth thanks to Coleman

Talk about being close to her boat.

Solo yachtswoman Pip Hare and her team have moved into the offices of Coleman Marine Insurance on Poole Quay.

It’s just a short distance from her craft, Medallia, berthed at Poole Quay Boat Haven.

Steve Risk, Coleman’s Managing Director, pictured with Pip, said: “We are privileged that Coleman Marine Insurance have been appointed as insurance brokers for Pip Hare Ocean Racing.

“It quickly became clear that we could help in other ways and that it was a natural fit for Pip and the team to make our Poole Quay office their team base and to make good use of our facilities, just a stone’s throw from where Medallia is moored at Poole Quay Haven.”

Pip, who will be sailing single-handed, non-stop, around the world as a competitor in the 2024 Vendée Globe race, said: “I’ve got a very different campaign to take me to the next race.

“I have a faster boat, a professional team behind me and a real chance of fighting it out at the front of the fleet.

“Having an office in Poole where I can base this exciting campaign is very important.

“I’m really grateful to Steve and his team at Coleman Marine Insurance for all their support and for the office space they’ve provided.”

In the 2020/21 race, Pip finished as the first British skipper, and in 19th place overall, despite having one of the oldest boats in the fleet.

Coleman Marine Insurance is the specialist marine division of Gallagher UK Retail, providing insurance expertise and products across the marine sector.

Talented artist to have work showcased at Poole gallery

Talented artist Arlene Lukkarinen is to have her latest body of work focusing on creating a sense of calm showcased at a Poole gallery.

Pen Gallery, the contemporary, locally-focused space for artists and creators in Kingland Crescent, is featuring Expanse.

Tickets are fully booked for the opening night on Friday November 12 but it runs until Saturday December 4.

Accentuating Arlene’s Finnish roots through her paintings, the solo exhibition combines Scandinavian minimalism with Arlene’s signature style of earthy tones and organic, whimsical shapes.

Having grown up creating hyper-realistic pencil drawings, Arlene, pictured, a self-taught artist, is inspired by nature and design.

After moving to Bournemouth, she often draws ideas for her paintings from life on the South Coast and her passion for modern bohemian interiors.

When Arlene, 28, isn’t painting or in the waves with her surfboard, she runs an authentic wood-fired sauna – The Saltwater Sauna – with a backdrop of the beach at Sandbanks.

Having relocated from Finland, where there is a ratio of 5.5 million people to 3.2 million saunas, Arlene uses it to reconnect herself and others with nature and cold water.
