And the winner of a 2021 Oscar is…hopefully a BU graduate!
Four Bournemouth University graduates have received a nomination for this year’s Oscars.
The 93rd Academy Awards shortlist names the four in the visual effects category.
They studied at BU’s National Centre for Computer Animation (NCCA) before moving into industry.
Andy Lockley graduated from Bournemouth University in 2000.
He works at DNEG as a VFX Supervisor and is shortlisted for the film Tenet.
Andy and the team at DNEG are frequent collaborators with Christopher Nolan, and Andy already has two Oscars to his name, for the films Inception and Interstellar.
Matthew Kasmir studied at Bournemouth University between 1993 and 1996 and is shortlisted for his work on the film The Midnight Sky, directed by George Clooney.
Anders Langlands studied Computer Visualisation and Animation at BU between 2000 and 2003 and is shortlisted for his work on Disney’s live-action adaptation of Mulan, while Ben Jones, who graduated from BU in 2006, is shortlisted for The One and Only Ivan.
While four BU graduates are named in the category, and will take to the stage to receive an Oscar should their film win, many more graduates work in the visual effects departments and will also join in the celebrations.
Dr Richard Southern, Head of Department for the NCCA at Bournemouth University, said, “We are continually amazed and proud of our NCCA graduates, many of whom, through dedication to their craft, go on to be leaders in the visual effects and animation industries.
“Congratulations to those nominated again this year, we’ll be cheering you along from Bournemouth.”
The ceremony will be held later than usual, April 25, with the nominated films released between January 1, 2020, and February 28 this year.

Harry goes from King of the Jungle to King of the Supermarket (sort of)
Harry Redknapp has presented Lewis-Manning Hospice Care with a £500 cheque after appearing on ITV’s Supermarket Sweep game show.
The former soccer manager and player is a Patron of the charity hospice which is based in Longfleet Road, Poole.
He visited the new premises, along with his wife Sandra, to present the cheque to CEO, Clare Gallie.
Harry said: “My team-mate Paul Merson and I didn’t do as well as we might have hoped but we’re thrilled to have won £1,000, to be shared between Lewis-Manning Hospice Care and Paul’s nominated charity, the NSPCC.
“We also had so much fun taking part in the show, which is hosted by Rylan Clark-Neal.”
Clare said: “We were delighted that Harry chose to take part in the programme to raise funds for patients in our community.
“It was brilliant to hear him say the charity’s name on television, all of our staff were rather excited!
“It was very generous of Harry to donate his winnings to Lewis-Manning.
“£500 will pay for over 24 hours of care for our patients, reducing isolation and loneliness.”
