They’re used to pushing their bodies to the limit but this is the most significant challenge either has faced.

Brothers Jack and Alex Forster are taking part in the ultimate cycling endurance event, billed as the world’s toughest bicycle race.

Racing from one side of America to the other, travelling 3,175 miles through 12 states in just seven days.

The same distance – and length of time – the world’s most famous liner, Queen Mary 2, takes to cross the Atlantic between New York and Southampton!

But with one significant difference.

The non-stop Race Against America (RAAM) will see riders undertake 170,000 ft worth of elevation.

Jack, from Wimborne, and Alex, pictured right, a newly retired Royal Marine who lives in Bournemouth, are flying to the USA in June 2022 to undertake the race.

It starts in Oceanside, California, and finishes in Annapolis, Maryland.

The brothers will take it in turns to ride, meaning the team will be riding continuously for seven days.

They will take with them a team of eight people to act as their support crew.

They’ll provide all the technical, health and safety support needed to ensure their safe passage across the States.

Jack, 32, pictured left, who is the Co-owner of E-Motion Fitness Hub in Poole, said: “So many people believe that this kind of challenge is for ‘athletes’.

“I’m doing this to prove to myself, and others, that with the right mindset, commitment and tons of hard work anything is possible.”

Jack and Alex, 30, are supporting the Royal Bournemouth Hospital Stroke Unit, a cause close to both of their hearts.

They’re looking to raise £170,000 to provide a state of art piece of equipment for the unit called a Walkabot, pictured right.

It enables stroke victims, who are unable to walk, with the opportunity to take up to 10,000 assisted steps a day which is vital in improving their chance of a full recovery.

There is currently only one Walkabot in the country but it is in the north so inaccessible to stroke victims in the south.

The brothers need to raise nearly £40,000 just to get to the start line.

Corporate support already received includes Torq Fitness UK and Trek Bicycle Poole.

They are providing nutrition and technical support.
