Care provider Agincare is going from strength to strength after extending its national reach into the capital.

As reported on Dorset Biz News, the Portland-based business has secured a long-term partnership with Southwark Council to operate four care homes.

It marks a strong period of post Covid growth for Agincare which was started in 1986 by its Founder and Chairman, Derek Luckhurst.

The company has grown from a single care home in Weymouth to become a leading provider of high-quality personalised care nationwide.

The London contract follows:

  • Agincare’s appointment at Cranford Avenue supported living housing scheme in Weymouth.
  • Launch of Nightingale Care and Nursing Home in Derby.
  • Acquisition of Beaufort Park Care Home and Retirement Village in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset.

The past 12 months has also seen Agincare, which has its head office in Castletown, also appointed as care provider for the Furlong Close supported living community in Rowde, near Chippenham, Wiltshire, with more set to follow this year and beyond.

Raina Summerson, Chief Executive, said: “Agincare’s continued success across the country enables us to continue to support and drive economic growth across Dorset through expansion of services and job creation in a diverse range of head office support roles.

“Our national and international work also enables us to showcase Dorset in many different ways.

“The London homes reflect Agincare’s proven and successful track record of supporting people and developing care and support services, with many transfers from local authorities, charities and independent providers.

“We are very excited to work with Southwark Council, the South East London Integrated Care Board and other local organisations across the borough to further develop sustainable, quality service provision and meet changing health and social care needs.”

Agincare says it’s committed to maintaining its headquarters in Portland, pictured, supporting the local economy in south Dorset and in the areas where it operates nationwide.

The business now employs 4,000 people in more than 70 locations.

Its teams play a full and active role in the local community, working closely with partners and fundraising for causes close to their hearts.

Directors also take on voluntary roles in smaller local organisations where their valuable skills and networks can be shared.

Derek Luckhurst is the driving force behind the regeneration projects around Agincare’s head office in Castletown, which includes a Tourist Information Centre, Crabbers’ Wharf holiday apartments, and award-winning D-Day Centre, which is a Community Interest Company.

Raina is Chair of both the nationally acclaimed b-side arts organisation and the Portland Economic Vision Board, a Trustee of Eden Portland/MEMO and works as part of the Dorset Ambassadors network.

Meanwhile Adam Luckhurst, Agincare’s Head Office Services Director, is Chairman of Weymouth and Portland Round Table.

The registered charity is made up of volunteers wanting to make a positive difference to the area, including organising the recent Summerfest event in the town.
