Condor is planning to use a Brittany Ferries’ vessel from Poole for its Channel Islands and French operations when high speed passenger sailings resume this summer.

The newly named Condor Voyager – formerly Normandie Express – is a 98m long high speed catamaran and will initially operate services from Poole to the Islands from next month.

Condor says it has seen a surge in booking interest with Jersey and Guernsey proving popular staycation travel destinations this summer.

The Condor Voyager will provide more capacity for those wishing to travel by sea.

Brittany Ferries is a minority shareholder in Condor Ferries.

The vessel is currently undergoing engineering checks followed by sea trials.

Once the evaluation is complete and final approval granted, the Condor Voyager will visit Poole to conduct mooring trials and familiarisation training for crews and port staff prior to entry in service.

Elwyn Dop, Condor’s Operations Director, pictured left, said the initiative was a great example of how the two companies are cooperating and he looked forward to seeing the ship in local waters.

He added: “With the extra interest in Jersey and Guernsey for travel destinations this summer, the ship will provide greater car and passenger capacity for those wanting to visit these beautiful islands.

“On arrival in Poole, our team and crew will get her ready for service and start sailing in May.

“Interest in ferry travel is significantly up on previous years because of people’s desire to use their own car and benefit from the wide spaces onboard and enjoy fresh sea air on the outer deck.

“With the Islands being part of the Common Travel Area, people can take a stress free holiday with no tests before leaving, and no quarantine or testing once they arrive back into the UK.

“The Channel Islands are safe, clean, fresh, natural holiday destinations so a great place to escape to this year.”

Condor Voyager carries up to 850 passengers and 235 cars.

The catamaran can travel at 42 knots and the crossing to the Channel Islands will take around three hours.
