A peer network providing tailored support for the hospitality, events, tourism and visitor economy in Dorset is expected to be highly popular.

Limited places are left for the programme which launches on January 5 and is fully funded by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy.

The six three-hour sessions every fortnight are to be chaired and facilitated by Debbie Taylor for up to 11 SME owners.

She has a sustained track record and extensive sector experience having held prestigious roles across tourism, hospitality and real estate in the UK, Europe and the US, at General Manager, Director and Board level.

Her portfolio of experience has included General Manager of the 5-star Rocco Forte Hotel, in Edinburgh; Managing Director of the Old Course, St Andrews, and President of Hospitality and Real Estate for Kohler Co.

In her most recent role, as People and Talent Director for Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, Debbie led the organisation’s strategy to attract, retain and develop talent across the group of 55 properties in UK and Europe.

The peer network is delivered by Circle Leadership.

Together with Dorset Chamber and Evolve, it’s been appointed by Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to run peer networks locally through its business growth hub, Dorset Gateway.

The peer networks allow groups of individuals to collaboratively work through common business issues including finance, HR, sales and marketing.

Mark Bayley-Smyth, Managing Director, Circle Leadership, pictured left, said a similar peer network for the hospitality sector on Merseyside had proved “incredibly popular.”

He added: “Normally the peer networks have a cross-section of businesses represented but this one will focus purely on the hospitality, events, tourism and visitor economy.

“The feedback on Merseyside has been incredible.

“It’s been quite emotional seeing between eight and 11 people come together to share their troubles and experiences in a safe, controlled environment.

“Debbie is a highly effective and dynamic industry leader who has achieved outstanding results through a collaborative and coaching style of leadership.

“She will also be doing one to one sessions with members of the group for an additional three and a half hours so this really is an amazing opportunity.”

Although the peer network is free, attendees have to meet the following criteria:

  • Operated for at least one year.
  • At least five employees.
  • A turnover of at least £100,000.
  • An aspiration to improve
