Dorset charity Diverse Abilities is hosting a reception at the House of Commons in December as part of its ongoing Splash Appeal campaign.

It aims to provide further information and share the vision of the needs and benefits a specialist therapy pool will provide to children and adults supported by the charity.

Diverse Abilities is also hoping to generate support towards meeting the Splash Appeal’s £1m target.

Mark Powell, Chief Executive Officer, said: “We are pleased to have the opportunity to raise awareness of this desperately important project, to build a therapy pool for people with physical and learning disabilities.

“Our sincere thanks to Lord Fellowes of West Stafford for enabling this, our sponsors, and to all who will be joining us to learn more about the appeal.”

Dorset businesses Forelle Estates, Liz Lean PR and Saffery Champness are sponsoring the Westminster reception.

Lee Ward, the parent of a child supported by Diverse Abilities, will talk at the event on December 2, alongside a representative from the charity and the appeal.

The Splash Appeal will build a specialist therapy pool for adults with disabilities in Dorset.

It will be based at the charity’s activity therapy centre, The Beehive, which has recently undergone a £735,000 transformation.

There are a range of benefits of a therapy pool for adults with disabilities.

These include reducing pain, relieving muscle spasms, improving mobility, psychological well-being, achieving the freedom of movement that cannot be achieved on land, physiotherapy opportunities such as straightening of the spine while floating, or beneficial chest physiotherapy in the water.

It also has the potential to prolong life.

Founded in 1955, Diverse Abilities is the only charity that that supports children and adults with profound physical and learning disabilities, and their families, in Dorset.
