Eight young carers aged 13 to 23 have gained a unique glimpse into the property finance world, thanks to a special visit to Poole-based lender MSP Capital.

The visit was part of an ’employability’ day organised by MYTIME Young Carers in partnership with MSP Capital’s Community Committee, offering the young carers a chance to see first-hand how housing development projects are funded and brought to life.

The event marked the end of a nine-week employability programme run by MYTIME, which focuses on skills, careers, and pathways into work.

During their visit, the group toured various departments at MSP Capital, learning about the company’s operations and the skills required in different roles.

Presentations were given by several MSP Capital team members, including Adam Tovey, Director of Risk and Underwriting; Rachel Bartlett, Head of Marketing & People; Elliot Phelps, Senior Software Developer; Chris Wright, Associate Director of Valuation; and Maddie Young, HR Administrator.

They shared their career journeys and insights into working at MSP Capital, offering advice on career progression and skill development.

The visit was part of MSP Capital’s broader ESG strategy, Foundations for Better Futures, which aims to support local communities and charities.

Louise Garner, Junior Underwriter and member of the Community Committee, helped organise the day and spoke about the challenges faced by young carers: “It is widely recognised that childhood caring responsibilities can take a toll on young people’s wellbeing, academic performance, and adult outcomes,” Louise said.

Eleanor Collins, Marketing Executive and fellow committee member, added: “Supporting young carers is exactly the kind of thing we want Foundations for Better Futures to achieve.”

MYTIME Young Carers, based in Bournemouth at Avonbourne School, was founded in 2018.

The charity provides respite breaks, safe spaces, and various support for five-to-25-year-olds juggling care responsibilities with their education or work.

The charity also collaborates with schools, local authorities, and communities to raise awareness and support for young carers.

MSP Capital’s support for MYTIME extends beyond the employability day.

Last year, the company sponsored Wimborne Town FC, with MYTIME Young Carers becoming the front-of-shirt sponsor, further raising the charity’s profile.
