A Dorset company is hailing the success of one of its apprentices after she made it through to the national finals of the Manufacturing Awards 2019.

Natasha Nichols, a first-year engineering apprentice at Wimborne based Superior Seals, struck gold at the regional heats of the awards, organised by Make UK, the manufacturers’ organisation.

The 20-year-old was the winner of the Engineering Apprentice of the Year: Rising Star category.

Although new in her career, judges heard how Natasha has already made a substantial impact within Superior Seals.

Through developing innovations at the company, the judging panel heard of the positive steps Natasha had taken in supporting school events to promote apprenticeships and demonstrating how new entrants to the manufacturing sector can be successful in a short space of time.

The Manufacturing Awards 2019 recognise excellence among manufacturing companies in six categories, as well as two apprentice classes.

They were presented at the South’s annual dinner of Make UK, sponsored by Japanese IT solutions provider Hulft and Menzies LLP.

Katie Bodman, Superior Seals’ Head of Training Academy, said: “We are exceptionally proud of Natasha for winning the gold award.

“Natasha has made fantastic progress within the company, being named as our own Superior Apprentice of the Year, and we wish her the best of luck as she heads to the national final of the awards ceremony.”

The national finals are being staged in London next month.
