Good on ya, Siân.
You’ve come up with a little ripper!
Which is Aussie-speak for saying well done Siân Burton for a great idea for a new business.

The 28-year-old is the founder of Uncle Chook’s Chicken Salt, making and selling chicken salt.
Never heard of chicken salt?
It’s Australia’s favourite condiment, on a par with salt and pepper.
Originating in the 1970s as a seasoning for rotisserie chicken – hence the name – it quickly made its way into fish and chip shops.
Chicken salt can be found in just about every establishment Down Under.
Made of a blend of herbs and spices, it’s best on hot chips but can also be used on pasta, noodles, roast potatoes, salad and many other dishes.
While massive in Australia chicken salt is virtually unknown in the UK.
Until now.

Siân, pictured left, who was born and educated in Bournemouth, first came across chicken salt in 2015.
She said: “I won a £500 holiday voucher for dressing up as a candle for a Halloween competition while working at the Richmond Group in Bournemouth.
“I used the voucher to buy a one-way ticket to Australia where I met my other half, Tom (Baker).
“Once my visa ran out I headed back to the UK with Tom following a month or so later.
“Back here, Tom immediately asked me: ‘where’s the bloody chicken salt, mate?”’
“We found ourselves paying over a tenner plus shipping for our favourite Aussie delicacy so I thought I’d start my own.”

Siân, a former student at Bournemouth School for Girls and St Peters School Sixth Form, said Uncle Chook’s was believed to be the UK’s only manufacturer of chicken salt.
She said: “Others import it – as do we – but I don’t know of anyone else who also makes it.
“At first I made it in my kitchen but now it’s made to our recipe in the UK.
“I had wanted to have my own business for about a year but couldn’t decide what to do until there was a lightbulb moment and we hit on chicken salt.”
Bournemouth-based Uncle Chook’s Chicken Salt Ltd was incorporated in March.
Siân said: “I’d been putting off starting a business for so long.
“What if I’m not cut out for it? What if it fails?
“I decided to hold myself accountable and started social media before anything else.
“A launch date was publicised so I had to work hard as I would never let people down.

“In one month I built a website, designed my brand, tested samples and practically forced everyone I know to follow me and share my content!
“What happened next was not expected.
“We packed 30 orders ready for some friends and family to politely support our business.
“Within an hour we had 100 orders and a total of 150 that evening.
“The orders have been steadily coming in ever since and we couldn’t be more grateful.
“We are now at our 400th order mark now and the next stage is partnering with restaurants.”
Siân is now a permanent resident of Australia living in Bournemouth.
By day she works in commercial property and interior design for Venaspace, the Bournemouth-based office space provider.

Evenings and weekends are devoted to Uncle Chook’s with local orders delivered by Siân dressed in a chicken suit and driving her 40-year-old VW Mk1 Golf, pictured.
UK orders are shipped for free.
Uncle Chook’s offers True Blue chicken salt imported from Australia or its Original Blend home-made version.

Both are suitable for vegans and don’t contain gluten.
Siân said: “Our purpose is to bring joy to people, make people laugh and provide a replacement to salt for all households in the UK.
“People love it with some of the best reaction coming from expat Aussies living in this country.
“To them it’s a taste of home at a time when they haven’t been able to see relatives and loved ones.
“There are a lot of Aussies in this area and the fact that they are among the biggest fans must be the ultimate compliment.”
