HealthBus Trust has been formally presented with the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service.

The Bournemouth-based charity, which provides a specialist mobile health facility for people experiencing homelessness, was announced to have won the accolade last November.

Now His Majesty’s lord-lieutenant of Dorset, Angus Campbell, has handed over the crystal award and certificate to trust representatives Gail Radford and Reg Chapman, recognising their exceptional contribution to voluntary service.

Two volunteers from the trust were also invited along to a garden party at Buckingham Palace on 8 May alongside other award recipients.

Chairman Christopher Wakefield said: “What an honour it is to be recognised in this way!

“I’m delighted that the contribution we are making to individual lives and the wider community is acknowledged in such a distinguished way.”

Lord-lieutenant Campbell added: “It’s a pleasure and honour to be involved and to acknowledge the outstanding work that the HealthBus has done and continues to do for those marginalised in our community.

“I deeply believe in their cause and applaud their determination and resilience as they continue to save lives!”

The trust partners with both clinical and non-clinical teams to help alleviate demand for NHS secondary care and support people in moving beyond homelessness.

It’s one of 262 charities, social enterprises, and voluntary groups to be honoured this year with the King’s Award for Voluntary Service.
