We love to keep you involved in what our community is up to.

  • Visiting Professor for Lewis-Manning Hospice Care: We’re thrilled that Professor Bee Wee CBE will be joining the team as Visiting Professor. Bee will be coming to Dorset once a year to give a talk to local hospice and end of life care palliative care teams, healthcare professionals, GPs and medical and clinical students to further inspire and develop palliative care education in the local area. Read more here.
  • Going up the wall for a great cause: Peter Harding Wealth Management team took on a Three Peaks Climbing Challenge at RockReef climbing attraction on Bournemouth Pier, raising funds for us as their nominated charity of the year. Full story here.
  • Clean energy push: An energy consultancy is helping Lewis-Manning Hospice Care to go greener. Bournemouth-based U4L has switched three of our retail shops – as well as our hospice building – to 100 per cent renewable energy. Read more here.

We cannot thank our volunteers enough for their continued support and help.

Each month we turn the spotlight on one of these incredible people who are an integral part of the organisation.

This month we meet retail shop assistant, Veronica Rochford, pictured.

Role and task?

I work on the shop floor serving at the till point, helping and greeting customers. When I come in to start my shift at 9am I dust all the shelves and glassware. I try to keep the shop a friendly place by greeting everyone with a smile.

When and why did you start volunteering?

I started volunteering with Lewis-Manning Hospice Care in April this year, it is satisfying to work with and do something for other people.

What’s the best bit of the role?

The most satisfying part of my role is meeting people and feeling useful.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking of volunteering?

I would advise anyone to help with volunteering and be open to meeting all types of people, and to not be embarrassed to approach people to help them.

  • If you or anyone you know would be interested in sparing some precious time to become a volunteer, we would love to hear from you! Please get in touch with our Volunteer Manager today by emailing [email protected]  or calling 01202 708470.

Face your fear and fire walk for us!

If you’ve got fire in your sole for fundraising, join us as we walk barefoot over a bed of red-hot embers.

No tricks… just you and the fire!

We would love to have you involved!

To sign up, please visit https://lewis-manning.org.uk/fire-walk/

We are encouraging everyone to fall in love with their outdoor spaces this summer.

With the help of our fantastic prize draw, all of Dorset will be sure to achieve a space they love.

Win prizes like an Ooni pizza oven, Dunelm garden furniture set, hanging egg chair and so much more.

It’s your last chance to get your tickets (just £2 per ticket) from our website and please share, so that friends, family, neighbours and colleagues can enter too (t&cs apply).

We’re proud of our dedicated and committed team, especially seeing how everyone has dealt with the challenges and adversities that Covid-19 has presented to the charity.

This month we wanted to find out more about our Area Fundraiser, Vicki Gray.

What’s the best thing about your job?

Where to start?… Ultimately, working with the most amazing team – and knowing that what we do has such a positive impact on someone else’s life. I love my job!

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever been given?

Believe and succeed.

Tell us something about yourself that we wouldn’t know

Whilst living in Sydney, I presented a weekly TV show, a bit like Tomorrow’s World, for a local TV station.

Describe yourself in three words

Positive, passionate, creative.

If you were going to rule the world for the day, what law would you introduce?

Ban Photoshop and similar software that distorts reality and promotes the superficial image of perfection. We are all perfect just the way we are! I would also introduce body confidence and positive self-image on the national curriculum.

Your best place for a holiday is?

Anywhere that I can spend quality time with my family, enjoy great food and drink and plenty of sunshine!

Our aim is to help as many local people as possible, who are dealing with a life limiting illness, to live their precious lives well.

There is no charge to attend Lewis-Manning Hospice Care.
