What’s the employment market outlook for the next few months?

Busy and challenging!  With lockdowns easing and a wide range of businesses busier than they have been for several months, there is a significant increase in recruitment across almost every sector locally.

Despite the general increase in candidate availability, primarily owing to retail and hospitality staffing reductions, there continues to be a massive, and worsening, skills/talent shortage.  This is heightened by candidates choosing to remain securely where they are rather than considering moving during unsettled times.

What advice would you give to businesses thinking about recruiting at the moment?

Getting hiring correct relies on a number of factors:

  • Get your recruitment specification drawn up properly and this needs to include the Person Spec as well as the Job Spec.
  • Ensure the remuneration package you’re offering is at least above average.
  • Work to a very clear recruiting process.
  • Choose your recruiting partner carefully and work with just one Recruiter/Agency per vacancy.
  • Ensure that you move very quickly once you know exactly the type of person you’re recruiting.
  • Spend time “selling” your business, the role and the opportunity – the best candidates have plenty of choice post-lockdowns and they will probably be counter-offered by their current employers, who are as likely to be hiring themselves if they’re growing.

Rubicon continue to support a wide range of businesses with their immediate recruitment needs as well as providing contractors and Temps to many business in and around Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.  If you need support, as an employer or as a prospective Job Seeker, contact us on 01202 680311 or email WeWork@RubiconPeople.co.uk

And now a chance to find out a little more about our talented team.

We start with Aimee Branch, Manager of Rubicon’s Industrial Division.

How long have you been in the business?

Since January 2017

What’s your career background?

I previously worked for another local recruitment agency for six years as a Senior Industrial Consultant.

What’s the best thing about your job?

Working with a motivated and enthusiastic team, who are passionate about delivering an excellent service to our customers. I also love working in a fast paced environment where no two days are the same.

Use three words to describe yourself

Cool, calm and collected.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

My older sister and I would play offices at home and from a young age, I’ve always wanted to work in an office environment, with a passion to build a career with opportunities to progress. Recruitment and working for Rubicon has certainly given me that opportunity.

Who do you most admire?

Although this sounds a little corny, this would be my husband. We’ve been together for 13 years and he’s such a driven person with a positive outlook on life. He works extremely hard and maintains so much focus to achieve his goals. He keeps me motivated and someone I can truly rely on (that’s enough of the soppy stuff now, haha).

Tell us something about yourself that we don’t know.

I’m a pretty transparent person, so there’s not much people don’t already know about me (boring I know).
