A Dorset shopping centre and the world’s first treeless paper were among the winners at the annual Big Green Awards staged in Poole.

EnvoPAP – which featured on dorsetbiznews after becoming available in Dorset – won the awards for Innovative Product and also Sustainability Thought Leader of the Year.

Meanwhile Poole’s Dolphin Shopping Centre received the Social Value Solution or Project category.

Other Dorset winners were Shaftesbury’s 918 Coffee (Sustainable Business of the Year), Osmond Ergonomics in Ferndown (Energy Project) and Damers First School, Poundbury (Special Education Award).

About 70 people attended this year’s gala dinner and awards, hosted by the Poole-based Southern Sustainability Partnership.

It is the region’s only event dedicated to rewarding organisations in environmental management, corporate sustainability and social value, covering both the public and private sectors.

The event was held at the Italian Villa in Poole and attended by organisations in the supply chain as well as the education, leisure, manufacturing, charity and retail sectors from across the county and UK.

Lynda Daniels, Director of the Poole-based Southern Sustainability Partnership, said: “The event shines a light on the fantastic work that is being achieved in the reduction of our carbon footprint in Dorset.

“Running a more responsible company is now as important to customers and the workforce as quality solutions and great customer service, as the demand for greater transparency reaches an all-time high.”

Dorset finalists in the 2019 awards included Air-Site UK (Poole), Daylight Energy (Poole), Evergreen Insurance (Dorchester), Led-Zip Lighting (Northbourne), Pearce Recycling (Verwood), The Embroidery Barn (Dorchester) and Wessex Eco Energy (Poundbury).

Dawn Witt and Nigel Ponsford of AquaCare presented the Social Value Award.

The 2020 awards will take place on October 13, 2020, and organisations can get in touch via [email protected]
