Gustavo Petenati and Kelly Beltrame are bringing the tastes of South America to Dorset.

Brazilian Beef

The couple, who have been married for 24 years, are the founders of Brazilian Beef, a thriving butcher, grocery store and market in Bournemouth.

The business, in Wimborne Road, began trading in 2019 and has built up a loyal customer base.

Kelly, 45, said: “We have customers from the Brazilian community but also Italian, Latin-American, Polish and, of course, English.

“Brazilian Beef is a place for everyone.

“For Brazilians who miss their homeland and for others who want to know more about our cuisine.

“We want everyone to be able to feel a little bit of Brazil through our products and services.”

Kelly and Gustavo, 44, relocated to Bournemouth in 2010 after six years in London.

Apart from specialist Brazilian cuts of beef such as picanha, known in the UK as rump cap, Brazilian Beef also sells a wide variety of products from Brazil.

It also has its own space where members of the community can enjoy time with family and friends over a cup of coffee and typical Brazilian snacks such as coxinha, cheese bread, kibbeh and empadinha.

The market often sponsors cultural events, Brazilian parties and collaborates with local groups and organisations who share Kelly and Gustavo’s commitment to the community.

Kelly, who has worked as a hairdresser, said: “We’re somewhere to meet people, make friends and, of course, enjoy Brazilian products and services.

“We’re very pleased with the response and, one day, would like to open another shop but that’s some way in the future.”

Gustavo was previously a driver with Parcelforce.

The couple, who live in Ensbury Park, have a daughter aged 18.

Kelly said: “We really enjoy doing the business.

“It’s so much more than a butcher and grocery store.”
