Introducing Coleman Marine Insurance, a Gallagher Company

Coleman, as a brand, is steeped in heritage and has been based in Poole for in excess of 100 years.

Coleman Marine Insurance has been in existence for over 20 years and is recognised as one of the UK’s leading marine insurance specialists, with a reach from the UK to the Mediterranean and beyond.

This reach has extended globally, particularly as Coleman Marine Insurance is now part of global insurance, risk management and consulting services company Gallagher.

Coleman Marine Insurance, part of Gallagher’s UK Retail division, is a specialist broker, providing bespoke solutions for all aspects of yacht, motorboat, superyacht, commercial craft, cargo and marine trade insurance. Its offices are based on Poole Quay.

Steven Risk, Managing Director, Coleman Marine Insurance, said: “As a business we have never forgotten our roots and we are always keen to take an active interest in our local community; we have organised an annual charity golf day which, over the last ten years, has seen the business raise in excess of £50,000 for local charities.

“We support many local marine sector specific events, such as the Poole Harbour Boat Show, the Professional Boatmans Association AGM and the Poole Regatta.

“We are proud of our Dorset heritage and are proud to provide our services to a wide and diverse range of clients: from private boat owners, whether yacht, super yacht or commercial craft, to some of the world’s most iconic and prestigious marine brands.

“The Coleman team can be found at many of the leading yachting events around the world, supporting our existing clients and meeting prospective new clients.

“We have incredibly loyal, committed and long serving staff – all of whom are local and have great depth of industry knowledge and technical expertise and share a passion for doing the right thing by our clients.

“It is this ethos of always putting our clients first that underpins our culture, it has always been that way and always will be.”

Q&A with Steven Risk, Managing Director.

Q: How long have you been in the business?

I have been in the Insurance sector since 1993 and was fortunate enough to join the Coleman Team in December 2006.

Q: What’s your marine career background?

I have always operated within the Marine sector since day one back in February 1993 having started my career working for a Lloyds of London Marine syndicate.

I have always had an interest in the Marine sector, whether boats, shipping or marine related businesses such as boat builders and the like.

To this day I retain their interest and I am very fortunate to work within what I personally feel is one of the more interesting sectors within the insurance market.

Q: What’s the best thing about your job?

The team I work with, a truly amazing group of people.

Q: Use three words to describe yourself

Determined, tall and balding.

Q: What did you want to be when you were growing up?

A PE Teacher.

Q: Who do you most admire?

My father for his work ethic and never having a bad word to say about anyone or anything, just getting on with it even at times of extreme adversity.

Q: Tell us something about yourself that we don’t know

Terrified of dogs and flying, even more so dogs that fly!
