A Dorset businessman has got a mountain to climb – literally – and he needs your help.

Joel Nurser, Operations Director at Poole-based Composite Profiles UK, is taking on the world’s most legendary mountain, Mount Everest, next month.

His aim is to raise £1 per metre by climbing the 5,380 metres to Everest Base Camp, while also attempting to summit neighbouring peak, Kala Patthar, which sits 263m higher at 5,643m.

The inspiration is his mum, Sue Nurser, who passed away from pancreatic cancer aged just 59.

Poignantly, Sue served her local community, first in a building society and, latterly, for many years as receptionist at Longfleet House Doctors Surgery.

All  proceeds from the climb will go to Marie Curie which provides care and support for those affected by terminal illness.

Three years ago Joel, who was born and brought up in Poole and now lives in Lytchett Matravers, raised £5,180 for the charity by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in memory of his mum.

His challenge now is to add a further £5,380 to make a total of £10,560.

Sue Jones, Composite Profiles’ Community Champion, said if anyone could successfully do the climb it was Joel.

She added: “This challenge is Joel all over. He’s a very measured, determined, focused and meticulous person so it wasn’t really surprising when Joel told us he was going to climb to Everest Base Camp.

“If anyone can do it, Joel can. The whole team is behind him.”

Joel said he was ready for the adventure.

“The thought of helping others receive support when they need it most, like we did, drives my commitment to this challenge and fundraising for Marie Curie,” he said.

Joel departs the UK on November 2 and will reach Everest Base Camp on Remembrance Sunday, November 10.
