Kate Lawrence is living proof that there is hope after redundancy.

The 26-year-old lost her job as a Marketing and Events Executive as a direct result of Covid-19.

The question was what to do next.

First step was to advertise her availability for work.

Kate penned a LinkedIn post which was seen more than 6,000 times.

She spoke to recruiters and businesses and was asked to help with freelance work by creating a marketing strategy.

It was approved and Kate had secured her first ‘proper’ freelance job.

And now, several conversations later and with a website, Instagram – and more – launched, she has set up her own freelance marketing and social media business.

Twenty Four Seven Social (TFSS) is aimed at helping small and medium sized organisations focus on running their business while Kate takes care of the marketing and social media needs.

She said: “Being freelance enables smaller businesses to have a marketing person, but with lower costs and high efficiency.

“I aim to help businesses on a short or long term basis, help bring in structures and allow them to take back the marketing reins should they wish.

“I can help maintain social media accounts, put together a marketing strategy, create engaging campaigns to get the business noticed, raise awareness and offer general marketing advice.

“I have experience in marketing for a large local law firm and have managed or, currently manage, an organisational development consultancy and hairdressing, nail/beauty, football coaching and fitness bootcamp businesses, all with positive outcomes.”

Kate, who lives in Bournemouth, has worked in advertising at the Bournemouth Daily Echo and also in car sales.

She said: “Redundancy forced me into making a decision.

“I could either step back into the corporate 9-5 or believe in myself, create my own business and ensure that I made it work.

“Dare I say redundancy – eventually – has affected me positively.

“It’s pushed me out of a secure bubble into something I would have deliberated for a long time.

“I hope anyone else experiencing redundancy has a positive outcome too.”
