We love to keep you involved in what our community is up to.
We cannot thank our volunteers enough for their continued support and help.
Each month we turn the spotlight on one of these incredible people who are an integral part of the organisation.
This month we meet Trustee David McDonald.
Why did you become a Trustee?
Two reasons:
How long have you been involved with the charity?
One year.
What’s your career background?
35 years in defence communications for engineering companies, 30 years of which were in leadership roles. Latterly, I was the MD of a company providing lifesaving equipment for our Armed Forces. Now I focus on 1:1 coaching, peer groups, rugby, respite foster care and Lewis-Manning.
What do you bring to the charity in terms of expertise and knowledge?
Many years of experience at Board level of large multinational companies in general management and operational roles. I have a good, broad understanding of what it takes to ensure that businesses are effective in delivering their core mission. I know enough about business finance to support Lewis-Manning’s FD and CEO in delivery of their responsibilities.
What is your favourite thing about being a Trustee?
The great people at Lewis-Manning Hospice Care deliver a much needed and wonderful service. I feel privileged to be a small part of this great mission.
New Year, New you? New challenge?!
Will the advent of a New Year see you seeking out a new challenge?
We’d love to inspire you to get involved in some of our inspiring and thrill- seeking challenge events which are taking place in 2022.
Find out if you’ve got fire in your soul for fundraising and join us and test your bravery by doing a Fire Walk on Bournemouth beach this September.
OR…
How about taking to the skies in July and completing a Wing Walk?
You’d be sure to be viewing the Dorset countryside from a different (albeit scarier) angle!

We’re proud of our dedicated and committed team.
This month we speak to Jo Sharkey, our Family Support and Bereavement Lead.
What’s the best thing about your job?
Making a difference to people’s lives.
I feel very passionate about supporting families, including children and young people, to enable conversations to take place and not to miss opportunities for goodbyes.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever been given?
It’s not all about the qualifications. This is something I wish more children and young people were told.
Tell us something about yourself that we wouldn’t know.
I have been on television, many years ago, on ‘Whatever You Want’ with Gaby Roslin.
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Caring, flexible, calm.
If you were going to rule the world for the day, what law would you introduce?
Having acceptance for each person, to be kind, to care, share, support and love.
Your best place for a holiday is?
Italy. I just love the scenery, warmth of not only the weather, but of the people, the colours, food, wine and leisurely way of life.
Our aim is to help as many local people as possible, who are dealing with a life limiting illness, to live their precious lives well. There is no charge to attend Lewis-Manning Hospice Care.
