Lisa's website for outdoor adventure seekers takes care of your skin and the environment

Lisa Dent, Founder, homemadeADVENTURES: "We only source natural products that contain no nasties and are kind to the environment."

Whisper it quietly but Lisa Dent believes her new eCommerce website has discovered a niche in the market.

The 42-year-old founded homemadeADVENTURES after struggling to find natural and environmentally friendly skincare products aimed at people like herself who are active outdoors.

Above all products that actually work against physical challenges.

From cycling, running, climbing and swimming to surf, paddle and snow sports.

Lisa said: “I’m passionate about the outdoors and the positive impacts being in nature has.

“But I’m also wholly aware that we are stripping the earth of its natural resources and dumping an unsustainable amount of waste into landfill.

“Collectively that is contributing to rapid climate change.

“I felt things should be done differently – and this is the result.”

homemadeADVENTURES officially launched last month and already has more than 100 products listed on the site.

They range from balms, creams and moisturisers to soaps, muscle rubs and sunscreen as well as gift boxes such as one for cyclists, pictured.

Lisa, who moved to Dorset in 2014 and married her husband, Anthony Foy, three years ago, said: “We do the hard work of sourcing products that fit our ethos.

“They can all be found on one site for ease of purchase, leaving our customers more time to spend on their adventures outdoors.”

Prior to the pandemic, her main business was Breakthrough Events, an international sports event management and consultancy company based within the adventure and endurance industry.

It was launched by Lisa in 2019 after a 15-year career which started with West Yorkshire Police as a civilian defensive tactics and physical training instructor through to, latterly, Race Director for Ironman Wales and Ironman Staffordshire.

Other roles included: Technical Operations Manager for the Individual and Mixed Team Relay Triathlon at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow; National Events Manager for Triathlon Australia and Sports Operation Manager for the Mountain Bike at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in 2018.

Lisa, who has done her fair share of active sport – from ultra running to mountain biking – said: “Breakthrough Events was created from a passion for outdoor sports and events.

“With over 15 years’ experience in planning and delivering major international sports events and programmes, I know what it takes to transform an event from ordinary to outstanding.

“But, as we all know, events took a huge blow as a result of the pandemic.

“I initially looked at other avenues for events using virtual and online platforms.

“This includes working with SixPack Events on its new and unique fitness challenge: The SixPack Marathon Challenge.

“It comprises six bespoke multi-terrain routes in a chosen area that, when completed, add up to the full marathon distance of 42+km or 26.2 miles.

“It’s designed to encourage people to get out and set themselves a challenge, leaving an imaginative, healthy and sporting legacy for all to enjoy locally.

“But, to build back my business stronger, I also got creative, using my existing knowledge and insight within the outdoor sports, endurance and adventure industry, to build and design from concept to creation homemadeADVENTURES.

“The response to date has been very good.

“As our platform grows we will source eco-friendly and sustainable products that align with our ethos and values around doing our part in the fight against climate change.

“As outdoor adventure seekers, we all know that nature provides us with a resource rich environment that provides so many positive impacts from physical to social and personal well-being.

“We all have a responsibility to ensure the survival of nature for future generations, reduce our impact and play our part in the fight against climate change.

“That’s why we only source natural products that contain no nasties and are kind to the environment from how they are made to the packaging they come in.

“We’re determined to be a force for good and to take ownership of our social and environmental impact.”

Lisa will shortly be returning to event organisation, including as Operations Director for the Keswick Mountain Festival in the Lake District in September and Venue Manager for the triathlon at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

She said: “I hope people find what they’re looking for on homemadeADVENTURES.

“If not, please let us know.

“We’re always searching for skincare and eco-friendly products that can not only stand up to the elements but can also keep up with the physical challenges in the outdoors.

“If it’s a new product or range you’d love us to stock, we’d love to know what it is and put it through its paces.

“And if you can’t find a product to fit your skin type or skin condition you’re prone to then we’d also love to know to make sure we cover all our bases.”
